Hi, we're spending 2 nights in Paris in August - will be driving there. Can anyone recommend a hotel on the east side of the city outside the pollution charging area with decent public transport links to city centre?

It would need secure parking and be in a good area as it'll be me and the family - also family rooms if possible.

Chateau Vincennes area looks like a good option; any reason not to? If anybody knows a good hotel here or anywhere else on the east side, please let me know. Thanks for any help!

The Golden Tulip in Marn La Vallee was excellent, booked for a trip to Disney. Underground's parking & easy access to the train into Paris. Might be a big far out for you. Paris is bloody enormous mind.

We stayed in a little place near the place d'itlalie
Can't recall the name but there is a few around there
Large underground public car park nearby cost 7 euros for 24 hours booked online in advance
Tube straight into Paris
Close to the ring road so was dead easy to drive in and out
Several decent restaurants and bars around the square if you stay local

We stayed in the cheap but perfectly decent Premiere Classe in a suburb called Genvilliers. Took about 20 mins to get in to the centre of the city by train. Parking is secure with an electric gate to enter, we reversed the van right up to a brick wall and just left it there for 3 days (bikes were in the back of the van).

They do rooms for 3, not sure if they do rooms for more than that.

If you want to consider the West side, imo much nicer 😉 we live in Levallois-Perret, last 3 stops of metro line 3, nice town with its own life (not just a "suburb"), immediately outside the Peripherique, easy access from Calais on quieter A16, not so good for EuroDisney mind but still an ok drive (roads really quiet as everyone is away). Note the CritAir sticker will cost you €5 and can be bought for uk cars if you do want to drive inside the city (it is quiet so this will not be an instant death / crash experience !)

If you want I can make some hotel recommendations

Trains are much better (whenever there isn't a strike) so it's really less hassle if you get anywhere on RER A or B (or even ends of metro like jambalya says) .. but 30 mins on RER vs 5 isn't much difference once you buy tickets, walk to platform etc.

It's also August from next week and Paris will be deserted ... but even so I'd not bother driving.
Given its August you could also look at La Defense ... there are a few hotels from Renaissance to Novatel ... pretty much next to the RER ... (though better not to arrive after midnight and be walking about as its a bit of a rough area AFTER the business people leave) ... but they might well be offering big discounts in August

Quite honestly if it was me I'd just use a web tool (like Hotels.com) and set parking and a requirement and look at proximity to RER/metro stations... I do have some hotels i use but I usually just tend to take whatever is cheap and available... and then basically only see the hotel for 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour before sleeping

It's deserted now, we drove though this week when normally we'd go round the Periph - my wife parents live directly opposite us as it where north west vs south east

In reference to Steve's post it goes La defence, neuilly, levallois around the periph on west side going clockwise. We are 8 mins from l'arch triomphe by car/taxi (uber here too if you want) - bit longer on metro as you have to change, direct to opera

OP any thoughts on the West sdie ?

To answer your question Vincennes is indeed quite nice, I am not sure there are many hotels in that neighbourhood, mostly very residential - my parents in law live in the town next door St Maur-en-Fosse. The zoo is there, the lake opposite is very nice for a stroll around and the Bois de Vincennes is always busy with walkers, families and road cyclists etc (just don't knock on the doors of any old white vans 😉 )

My suggestion is also west side. Suresnes/Pont de Suresnes: another place with its own life. There's a Première Class for those like us who want a clean bed with no frills, and plenty of choice for those who wish to pay for luxury and/or character.
