Who else is having kid troubles lately?

Kids have been ill off and on for ages, causing severe sleep deprivation for Mrs Grips since I've been away. Last night they were both up most of the night with some kind of flu.

Not asking for advice, just a whinge and some of your stories please 🙂

<stw>

you're choice to have kids and to contribute to the overpopulation and rapid depletion of resources, i bet you hang their poo in the trees and let them chase bikes whilst shouting 'they're not normally like this!'

Until we had two children of ages two and under, I never realised how much non descript viruses and the like could [s]affect[/s] rule day to day life. Molgrips, I feel your pain. <solemn nod>

Same here.. we thought yunki juniorest was teething all last week, whingey with a runny nose and high temp etc but on Friday we took him to the docs to rule out ear infection etc..
The doc then had him bluelighted to the nearest paediatric unit on a nebuliser with acute Bronchiolitis and some sort of cold virus.. I had an exhausting 36 hours in the hospital with a very sad baby.. He's perked up now after some antibiotics but was up a lot of the night last night again, teething

Today yunki junior is off pre-school with a high temp and stinking cold too

The positive side to it is that I was the darling of the children's ward, with nurses swooning over my patient and tender vigil.. 8)

The repeated vomiting one is always good, middle of the night cleaning up vomit always puts you in a good frame of mind. then they ask to sleep in your bed.....

3 bouts of bronchilitis including 2 hospital visits followed by three weeks of on/off projectile vomiting left us a little frayed round the edges.

things have been a bit more settled for the last couple of weeks...

Me too, feeling the pain Mol.

Daughter (16 months) had febrile convulsions on Mon. evening, scared the bejeesus out of us. Called the Ambulance and spent 7 hours in A&E and the following three days with a temperature. A trip down the GP diagnosed a popped eardrum and associated infection. Nothing serious in any of it but worthy of a winge like you!

Son (3yrs) is playing up a lot tto 'cos the attention his sister is getting, plus the usual colds...

Pesky kids!

Yeap, snot, puke and poo is my life!
Apparently I have a shed full of bikes in the back garden. No energy or time to use them.

KJ01 (3.5 years), KJ02 (0.2 years) and Mrs K all have colds.

I'm at work trying to stay awake. 😯

I find that ^^ is the safest place to be...

Moaning because you are away all week and your poor long-suffering wife is taking the burden of parenting?

Some people really do have it tough.

I'm on my 3rd cold in a month, not to mention the stomach bug from a week or two ago. 1 month old not sleeping well as windy as well and the toddler is playing up due to the new arrival too.
They are virus sponges, but wouldn't be without them for the world.

Anyone else got snot trails on the shoulders of every top and feel like it's normal?

well our eldest (3) is playing musical beds during the night and has a nasty hacking cough so there's a good chance of being woken in the middle of the night by him coughing violently about an inch from your ear.

I usually pick up every bug the kids get but so far just a sore throat.

Anyone else got snot trails on the shoulders of every top and feel like it's normal?
got some new fabric (what were we thinking?) sofas recently, everyday there's snot 'dashes' all over them by the time they go to bed.

Has she still not cleaned that fridge? 🙄
More time scrubbing, less time playing with the knitting machine!

<serious>
10 kids out of my youngest class off with the vomiting / pooing virus. If yours haven't already had it, brace yourself!

Had the vomitting one the other week.
10 changes of bedding in 3 hours. The airing cupboard was empty in the morning. Thankfully the woodburn got it all dry in a few days.
Not nice but they need to get ill to build up a tolerance.

my christmas treat is having 6 days off (after 8 night shifts, 2 off, 5 day shifts). Normally I'd do some overtime on my days off, but I'm having 6 days to myself to do some woodwork, tidy the garage, ride a bike for pleasure rather than transport, do a uni assignment and generally catch up on sleep. On saturday I looked after the little un all day as mrs meehaja was feeling ill and tired. On sunday I had to take her cousin to a bootfair, nursery are having a training day today so I'm providing childcare again, ditto tomorrow. Wednesday I have an interview in York and need to get this assignment done.

That leaves me thursday to myself. Can't wait.

Currently on the sofa with a constipated 4 year old who is scared of pooing. Judging by the smell there's loads waiting to come out. Amused myself by reading the picolax thread.

Oops.. maybe a doc's trip is in order? She's been ill for a good long time off and on, mostly since starting nursery. Open surgery is done for the day and they seem to be picking up though...

Jruk we had the scared to poo thing last week. That was a laugh. Clutching her crotch dancing from one foot to the other. "Do you have to go peepee?" "Umm no."

I think you are not a good lier.

Moaning because you are away all week and your poor long-suffering wife is taking the burden of parenting?

Not really moaning mate, but thanks for your concern about our family arrangements.

Oh and the fridge has been cleaned yes 🙂

We seem to have got over the illness in our house but the hamster died on Friday which has put a downer on things.
He'd had a good innings so it was fairly inevitable. My 5 year old boy was heartbroken as it was his first pet and he loved it dearly.
We told him that little Pippin had gone to heaven to be with the angels and as it's a festive time of year, Father Christmas would keep an eye on him.

He seemed to accept this so we thought nothing more of it.

We took the kids to see "Father Christmas" yesterday and had asked them to prepare a christmas letter to give him which they did.

All went fine with the visit until Santa got to the end of my son's letter where it mentioned Pippin, the fact that he'd recently passed away and how he'd like santa to look after him. My son then went on to explain what Pippen looked like so that Santa would know exactly what to look out for.

Santa cried. It was pretty awkward really.

3.5 and 1.5 yr old boys here; the youngest seems to have have had a constant trail of snot coming out of his nose since the start of September. It alright though as he knows the best way to clean it off - ON MY CLEAN CLOTHES!

We also just finished 4 weeks worth of chicken pox......bet we get the puking and pooing over Chistmas.

Fwiw, feeling beaten up by the challenges of teenage-hood (sulks, inactivity, selfishness etc) - Mrs A and I were fondly reminiscing of how enjoyable the early years were, and how the challenges (like colds etc) seemed so easy in comparison ... rose tinted spec perhaps!

Kip Jr is asleep in her pushchair in the kitchen after waking at 5.40am again this morning for a pee. I was shattered so Mr Kip stayed home to let me get more sleep. Kip Jr and I then had a lovely morning out at gym club only to return to discover Mr Kip has drilled through a cable below the Consumer Unit whilst fitting skirting boards (don't say it, I've bitten my tongue and he feels rubbish enough already). 🙄

I'm in the process of fixing it and it's not the end of the world but did feel like I needed a whinge about the other "kid". I am however, just glad that when Kip Jr had her only vomit bug it was in the day and only lasted til 12pm. She slept most of the time she wasn't chucking up and was good enough to throw up in a potty.

I feel all your pain and hope your little ones get better soon.

You say whinge, I say moan. Sounds the same from here.

On second thoughts - I'd put a whinge at a slightly higher pitch than a moan but, only having a mental track of your voice, I am unaware as to the pitch of your complaining.

I feel your pain OP. Nice to know we're not alone though! Eldest (3) threw up all over himself in bed Thursday evening, missus was out so cleaned up, put a wash on, and sat in our bed with him for a while. He threw up once more but other than a loss of appetite has seemed OK since.

Last night the missus checked on the youngest (2) before we went to bed, called me in as there was a funny smell, turned out he'd thrown up all over himself in bed and (more worryingly) hadn't woken up when he did it. Anyway, we woke him up and I cleaned up while she bathed him and gave him cuddles, I then spent all night awake listening for noises.

This morning we figured it had all passed, they've apparently spent most of the day laying on the sofa watching TV (unusual). Got a text a few minutes ago saying the eldest just threw up everywhere so we may be going around again....!

Also, and apologies for the slight derail, but am I the only one who hasn't had a decent nights sleep since they were born?!

My better half seems able to sleep through pretty much anything, unless one of them comes in and wakes her (once by puking all over her). I used to be able to sleep through anything at all but these days one of the children only has to fart and I'm awake and up out of bed. I wouldn't call myself a paranoid parent (far from it) so no idea where that comes from, but it's a right nuisance.

our 2 1/2 year old girl wont sleep past 6am (i know that would be amazing for some!)and is taking longer to go down, "daddy need a wee, poo, another story, wheres mummy"

she is still terrible with the food, picks at bits n pieces, loves her fruit but cant give her what we eat.

sleep deprivation is evil though, ive never had so many colds/coughs in my life!

the mother in law didnt help, put the tree up and all i get know is "daddy is it christmas today?"

the winter sickness bug is well ensconced in out house - I'm the only one who isn't ill - having to clean up either diced carrots or gravy depending on which end has exploded!

Great thread...nice to know there are many in same boat!

my 17 month old has had 2 months of burst ear drums, teething, colds etc and is permanently snot faced. He slept through last night for over 12 hours which is unheard of...oh how I pray that lasts..

Mrs FRN is home of sick, preggers and flu of cold. MIL suppsed to have child but decided that she would go shopping as Mrs FRN at home so must be OK 🙄

teary wife on the phone, so I rang MIL who then came back from said shopping trip. apparently picked up son - fuming... 😈

You say whinge, I say moan. Sounds the same from here.

Don't labour the point - it's a bit of light hearted relief from sharing the crap you put up with as parents, and maybe some funny stories thrown in regarding puke. A bit like a muddy 24 hour bike race - crap, but you love it all the same.

I'll be more specific in the thread title next time, ok?

Thing1 decided she didn't want a sandwich at lunchtime, but wanted a specific piece of bread instead. When this was denied and another piece offered (Mrs Grips is keen that the pieces match up.. yes, I know...) she lost it completely and sat slumped up against the cupboard wailing incessantly, completely limp. Put her up in bed and she fizzled out and has now been sleeping for an hour.

She's in quite a bad way actually, this is probably the most ill she's been. Docs tomorrow I think.

So, having had a few days of my baby daughter being really picky with her food, I decided to make a stand. She would sit there and eat what was in front of her, and there would be nothing else. Cue endless wailing and crying. I finally gave up, and she just sat on the floor, doing nothing. At that point I decided to take her temperature...which was 3 degrees above normal.

Yes, I did feel very bad.

Yup feel your pain. We were quite smug parents as blobby jr was sleeping though from quite early on... until he started teething. We've now had about 3 months of rubbish nights and I know tiredness like never before. The past two weeks have been chronic, consisting of a week in hospital with bronchiolitis with the poor boy in a oxygen head box and being fed on a drip. I'm told that this is pretty much what to expect for the next year or so!

What is it with the snot??? You know at school there was always one kid who had snot coming out of his nose? Well that kid is one of my two. It just doesn't stop!

Seriously, the fella has a real talent there with his snot production but I am yet to find a way of commercialising this resource.
