[Closed] Parental controls on HUDL 2 tablet

Against my better judgement my misses has promised my 7year old a tablet for Christmas.

Was looking at the Amazon fire HD 6, but thinking the screen is a bit small so the other child friendly tablet seems to be the Tesco HUDL 2.

Anyone have one? Wondering how good the parental controls are? Is it possible to enter websites in the settings that are ok to access then block everything else?

Thanks.

There are some videos on them on youtube. They look pretty good. As I said in the tablet thread last night I am a big fan.

In fact it's probably the best tablet to get a kid because of them and it's built quite tough.

I should really have checked these things before buying my daughter one. Ah well, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread now.

Had a Hudl until I dropped it 🙁

Set up a profile for the kids - registering them with their own Gmail address, which has your account as the master.

Then set the profile as under 16. Same for Youtube. Turn off auto-payment in the Play store etc.

Sit back and then shout at them for watching Minecraft videos!

You can limit the hours they use it as well I think. Or at least the hours they use the internet.

I must set this up on my 7yr olds tablet.

(Probably have to ask his 9yr old brother to show me how...).

🙂

Day 2 of Hudl2 here as replacement for dead nexus7. I havent set up controls but they look simple. Tablet is ace, and if you get the soft cover from tesco (£20) it is even more solid and protected. Would definitely recommend.

Is it possible to set a list of websites it is restricted to or is there just a general "dodgy stuff" blocker

I use this for my eldest's Android tablet (Samsung not Hudl) link.

It is very good and gives you complete control of what they do and for how long. It costs about £3 per month but is worth every penny.

My youngest has an ipad and they are aiming to bring out an IOS version soon. I did try Parental Screen Time but it kept crashing, hopefully the Screentime version will be as good as the Android.

Edit:
Use in conjunction with Open DNS to lock down the internet.

Did anyone find out if it is possible to lock down a HUDL to specific websites I enter as acceptable?

I just found I can do this in my iPad in the restriction settings.

I guess this could be possible using openDNS as mentioned above but I don't want to restrict my iPad to CBeebies too!

Our 9yo has been given one today for his birthday. The safety & time controls seem pretty good. You can restrict www site access according to age (or lower) and then manually enter website addresses you consent to.

eskay - thanks for the link. That looks a very useful tool to add to the shouting, berating and threatening to take the tablet away for a week if he doenst stop playing on it 🙂

EDIT
All installed on his xmas prezzie in <10mins, with the remote app on my phone. Some excellent functionality - like being able to add x mins of screentime as rewards for doing chores etc, or not being an arse to his brother. Both apps are free on android.

good point mudmuncher, but Ive seen nothing about subs or payments on the play site online or the android play store

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.screentime

maybe its just the webportal remote control that requires a sub?
