Bought a second hand bike Yay.
Short version:
Got the hump with Parcelforce.
Long version:
Managed to sort with the seller to package it and ship. On a day that worked for both of us.
Collection for him (potentially having to wait all day) delivery for me(having to be in all day)
Plus a bit of leeway if it got there early ha ha ha ha.
Decided to go parcelforce as I can get 15% off and I thought they would be reliable, I mean it says 48 in the title....
I also have the back up of it ends up in the post office which is half a mile away if they get it wrong.
So, I worked out how to pay for it and get it collected etc etc etc
As you know, it all takes hours.
Collected on the 3rd.
I looked at the tracking on the 4th.
Collected>sending to hub>sending to London delivery depot (I live in cornwall)>sending to hub
So, that was the fourth. Odd I thought. Anyway, still loads of time.
Had organised my day today to do stuff indoors and be available for the three seconds when it arrives.
Hung about for a bit. Looked at tracking.
Still no different. Should say 'out for delivery'.
I thought 'hmmmmmmm'.
So, tried to contact parcelforce online.... don't think that can be done....
Found a phone number (Oh joy of joys)
So, contacted the mobile phone company to find out if it would cost me a million £s to call their number (it doesn't)
Eventually get through. Oh, sorry, it was mis-directed. We can deliver tomorrow (working) the next day? (working etc etc) Saturday? (working, this is why I sorted it out for today!!!)
Anyway, have organised something for thursday. Change everything etc etc etc etc
But how bloody annoying.
Hours spent trying to get things sorted out properly.
My main gripes are:
a) Why have you not informed me that it isn't coming today. You have ALL of my information.
(You could probably even make a guess at my height and inside leg if you opened the box.)
I almost assumed that it was a tracking error issue rather than go through the bother of contacting a call centre.
I guess this is what happens when people wait in all day and it doesn't arrive?
b) As it was discovered on the 4th. Why did it not get its priority upped?
They provide a saturday delivery service plus a 24 hour service. So, if they had treated it as 24 hour on friday, it had the whole weekend and it would have arrived on time.
Grrrrrrrrr
So, what a waste of half a day today.
Don't know about you but I relish my days off.
Today spoilt but was worth it for the delivery.
Now have organised all sorts for thursday and still can't blah blah blah blah
Phew, thanks for the vent.
Actually, I wonder if I might be better trying to carry it home rather than having to wait in half a day. Hmmm, although, I like the people in the post office, they have been really helpful to me in the past, and post office itself is pretty small. They would have to store a whole bike for a day or two. I think it would have to out the front of the counters. Also, I got to carry a whole bike box home (no car) and I have been ill. Hmmmm.
Anyway, *breathes out slowly* on with the day.
Man I am pleased I put the effort in to find out.
Yup I've noticed a few of their 48hr deliveries going up to 72hr.
Deivery to work/friend FTW.
my parcel from a well known on line cycle retailer, 48hr service, tracking said it arrived in the depot in england on the monday, still there tusday, still there wed, then in scotland on the thursday morning, out for delivery later that day. at lunch returned to sender as address unknown. grrr.
DPD were no better before Xmas.
Handy tracking app showed it out for delivery by Driver X, with a 30 min window.
30 min window elapses, no parcel.
DPD driver in the street, so I leap from the front door & flag him down.
Yes, its Driver X.
No, he has no parcel.
Show him the phone, shrugs shoulders. No parcels left on the van, must be an error.
Ended up driving across the Midlands to collect the thing.
To be fair, everyone I dealt with from DPD was spot on, had plenty of DPD deliveries before with no issues.
Its just one of those things, not helped by Xmas deadline.
Never any issues with Parcelforce, but why you can just elect to have it delivered to a local sorting office for collection I dont know, it would save them a load of work.
The downside of late has been the queue at the local sorting office, its out the door most days.
If it’s going to end up just half a mile away why stay in all day?
Deivery to work/friend FTW.
Doesn't work unfortunately.
I am out in the van all day.
I cycle home and don't have a car.
I couldn't carry it home.
If it’s going to end up just half a mile away why stay in all day?
Yeah, I only just thought about that after organising it to be delivered thursday.
I am just pondering it.
I have been pretty ill, so not sure I want to drag a bike box half a mile.
(no car)
Also a bit concerned that, having agreed with them to deliver it thursday, what happens if I try and change it? who knows eh?
I might try ringing them and changing it see if they can deliver it to the post office.
Oh boy, lucky I love hold music eh?
Anyway, rant was over, I am getting on with other things now.
Was just pretty frustrated and disappointed.
(I wanted to fiddle about with my bike too.)
I don't think they are on top form at the moment. I used their 24hr service and dropped off at a Post Office on Thursday, it's only just out for delivery today. That part I don't mind what worried me enough to go back and check at the Post Office the next day was that the tracking still said awaiting drop off 24hrs after I had taken the parcel to the Post Office despite them having scanned it and given me a receipt.
Could you walk to the po and, er, ride it home?
lol, like the thinking.
I actually hadn't thought of that.
I am hoping to keep the bike box it is in though to sell another bike.
Plus it will be partially dismantled to an unknown level plus it has a spare wheel with it.
Well, plus my arm still is fairly painful from shingles, I have to cycle favouring one arm atm.
(better than it was, I couldn't touch the bars at it its worst.)
Otherwise, good plan.
I think I will just leave it to being delivered thursday.
I am sure I have plenty of tasks that need doing indoors for the day.
You said you have a work van - why not collect the bike from the Post Office and drop it off at home during your lunch break? That way you don't have to worry about getting it home and you don't need time off work.
You might have to u pack the bike and fold the box if it's a small van but if you unseal the bottom of the box before you fold it, it shouldn't be too 'damaged' whilst being transported home.
Parcelforce grumble
That’s got to be quite niche. Fair play for being open-minded and willing to explore all aspects though...

This thread really is useless without pictures.
Diggity.
Every parcel I've had recently seems to sit at a warehouse or depot for several days before moving. Ordered something between Christmas and New year and paid extra for 48 he delivery. It wasn't dispatched for 3 working days, wasn't best pleased.

My 48 hour delivery has so far taken 10 days, should've been here at the latest last week, when I'm at home, back to work today, missed delivery today, don't know where it us until I get home, hope it's not gone back to depot as 59 miles away, large parcel. Grrrr
Mmmm, no card so no idea where it could be, thanks
thought thread was about mailorder pron
am disappoint
sadface
****wits, they going to redeliver tomorrow, again when nobody is in or they take it back to depot with a 2hr journey to pick up, why is ìt so hard to contact them, I've already sent 2 emails last week.
That’s got to be quite niche.
the postman always knocks one off twice

if you're ordering in quantities that are two big to get through your letter box you possibly need help.
you possibly need help.
You offering him a hand?
Maybe the OP is worried as it may not the regular Parcelforce guy?
Due to seasonal peak they’ve got some relief staff in.
Another moan from me. Parcelforce seem to be in the dark ages now, all the others have text reminders and you can text back with a safeplace, leave with neighbour etc.
Parcelforce are tasked with delivering a relatively small, cheap item. First drop card says they'll redeliver tomorrow, I leave a note saying please leave at the post office if they can't leave it in mysafeplace, so the driver promptly takes it back to the not local depot thats a 2 hour round trip. Its only a 90 minute drive to the seller!!!
So now we arranged a 3rd delivery attempt (to the local post office as originally requested) and obviously we now have to pay, but they insisted that I have to pick it up that same evening??!! Had the same a couple of months ago...refusal to do anything other than deliver in person or return to depot.
In two years I've only had to collect one signed item from a depot due to my safeplace, and then two in close succession from parcelfarce 🙁
It really is a waste of time trying to organise stuff isn't it?
Having rung them and organised a redelivery for Thursday when I know I can be in, it turned up today.
A very nice neighbour, (well a little down the road actually) took it in for me.
The guy must have been knocking on doors for ages to get that far.
Yeah but for all that it's not been dumped in a handy wheely bin lying in the street full of handy cushioning material, on your doorstep or evaporated into the ether.
The tracking app is bollocks though, just refreshing does nothing, you have to put all the details in again to update it. Missed my delivery that way and no card left. Did find out it had been left with a neighbour and when I phoned them they told me which one. Still better than Yokel or Herpes.
Yup.
It is, at least in my posession.
The whole Hermes thing has improved over the last few years.
(I still wouldn't use them for my mum's best china though.)
It is just that it is dependant on the individual deliverer isn't it?
Ours is great.
She seems to do her rounds after work hours in order to catch people in.
Ours is a mingebag hence no intererest in entertaining them.
