Parcelforce - anyone know how scanning works?

Sent 2 pairs of forks in for a service at Fox in Risca with Parcelforce 24 hr service. This was Monday so should have been there on Tuesday for the Wednesday appointment I had. They didnt turn up and still havent.

The tracking number / history shows me that every night at about 11pm they have an update saying "prepared for delivery" in the Newport depot. They have never progressed beyond that to "out for delivery".

Of course my main worry is they have lost them somewhere and they are never to be seen again, but i'm hoping that the fact the status is updating every night potentially means someone in the Newport depot is scanning the tracking barcode to make that status update in the system. In this case they are maybe just massively backed up and they'll get there in the end.

Anyone worked at ParcelForce or know how their logistics tracking tech works?  Is my status update someone scanning the barcode on my forks that really are stuck in Newport, or is it a system generated holding statement giving me false hope and they are never to be seen again?

Really hoping im not about to start a 'what forks' thread 🙁

Yep, they tell you it'll be delivered in 48hrs, you pay for that service then it arrives 6 days later.

Oh wait,  you said scanning!

I had a parcel recently that kept getting scanned but was resolutely stuck in the wrong depot. It did eventually arrive. Turns out the sender has used an old box with another label and they must've been scanning the wrong label and sending it back. Took about 4 weeks to get to me. I'd say if it's on the system you should be ok

They will have a process where you have to wait [period of time] before they declare it lost, and you can submit the claim against the insurance you took out when you posted it.

In my limited experience, ParcelForce can have their moments but they're not usually completely useless. I'm reasonably confident it'll turn up.

Yeah, reusing packaging with old bar codes ain't a good idea, so either rip them off, get a big black marker pen and obscure them, or tape over them...
