Has anyone used those paper shredding services?
I've got a huge pile of paperwork that needs to be destroyed. I have a paper shredder, but I think it would not be happy with the sheer volume, and what do I do with the giant mountain of shredded paper afterwards?
So was wondering about one of those companies where you pay them money and they take it away.
EDIT: Yes I am aware that this will likely win an award for most boring topic of the week but someone has to get it.
We've used a local shredding company a couple of times for expired company paperwork. Costs a few quid but soooo easy for you, and you (should) get a single piece of paper confirming destruction in return, which may be useful if you need to show the papers were shredded.
Even burning paper takes ages as it doesn't burn well in clumps, you have to feed it in a few sheets at a time on anything short of a full bonfire. And it's smokey and extra-stinky for some reason.
I just take mine to work and shove it in he confidential shreedding box. I agree that domestic shredders are pants when faced with anything more than a few sheets
I used to use a brazier thing till it rusted to bits. Now it's the only time I light our wood burner is to burn bank statements and the 14,000,000 different tax codes which HMRC send me every year.
"the 14,000,000 different tax codes which HMRC send me every year."
I must have told you a billion times not to exaggerate!
Have a Fellowes shredder and not one of the cheapest. It's domestic, will take about 5 sheets at a time and does a good job. For the initial mass shredding (about a bin bag full), I went to work and put it through our industrial shredders. But the Fellowes is decent and about £60. Don't go too cheap
burn bank statements
You get paper bank statements? How quaint.
Shreddings are great for packing eBay items it you stuff sandwich bags with them.
I bought a Fellowes shredder after a thread on here about them. Wasn't especially impressed with it's performance over occasional use. Then a couple of years later I learnt you're meant to oil them! Game changer life hack extraordinaire! Worked better than new after very liberally coating the blades with 3 in 1 oil.
Garden incinerator, couple of litres of diesel and a stirring stick.
Use local industrial shredder company for our paperwork. Costs £7 per BIG bag & you can watch it goes through the shredder.
