Fire doors are being put in over the next few days, plain type and unpainted.  Rather than painting them thinking of using a satin( or non gloss) varnish, anyone done this ?  Not a lover of painted doors.

Have nice handles on order.

Any help gladly taken

Should be fine. Can't imagine a bit of varnish will make them any more flammable than paint.

Are the doors actually suitable for not painting - from an aesthetic point of view? Are they panel doors?

The fact they are fire doors shouldn't make any difference to the finish you choose. The fire is on one side, the door stops it from coming through for either 30 or 60 minutes, or whathaveyou.

While they nay be branded as fire doors, theyre a bit useless without the correct frame, locks and handles not forgetting hinges and smoke /intumescent seals, varnish or paint would be the last thing id worry about.

there are fire resistant paints available though.

Johnstones quick dry (waterbased) polyurethane varnish in a satin finish. Easy to use and gives a nice finish.
