Before I look up how to do it on YouTube - I am wondering if any of you have any guidance on painting flashing?

In our new home we have some flashing above a bay window where the paint is coming away. With this place being what it is - some of you probably know how to do a proper job.

Any tips?

Don't know really but I used a wire brush attachment in a battery drill to key it, good clean down and then used black smooth hammerite. Looking good about 3 years on.

I had a bit of tatty peeling flashing around the front porch. Everybody I asked said paint would just flake off.
I just rubbed it down gently and gave it a single coat of grey Dulux Weathershield undercoat and it stayed looking good for a couple of years until we sold it.

The flashing shouldn't have been painted in the first place; lead is pretty inert and like aluminium, quickly forms a protective layer of oxide. Get some Nitromors and take it all off.

Thanks very much for your guidance. Much appreciated. I will clean off and then look to use the patination oil above. Cheers.

Be careful how you clean it off, lead oxide is nasty stuff (health linky)
I take the view that it's a cycle of repainting once begun, just remember not to repeat it on new leadwork 🙂
