So, I ended up buying a new Asus 13" 2tb Zenbook and have a few questions, if i may...
Firstly, the fan is constantly running on the ASUS despite it being on a laptop stand that allows plenty of air around it. I found somewhere online about adjusting the power settings down from 100% and it seems to have made it slightly quieter, but it's still running permanently.
Any ideas on anything else to do? I rarely heard the fan on my Huwaei D15.
I've reset Windows 11 and wiped all personal files off the old laptop, it's now asking me for Windows ID to progress, no other options. Is this now the state to leave it in for resale?
Fan running generally means it's running something pretty resource-heavy, and Norton/Kaspersky/McAfee antivirus stuff that often comes bundled with new laptops can a) be a bugger for this and b) are entirely unnecessary. So, uninstall anything like that and let Windows Defender/Firewall take care of all that stuff.
...plus, if it's brand new, it might be downloading and installing a load of Windows and other updates, which could well get the fan whirring.
What he said. ☝

Probably? How did you 'reset' it?
Does the fan stop when you close the STW browser window? My laptop fan seems to go crazy when I'm on this site (have tried this with nothing else open) and when I close the browser down, after about 10 seconds the fan stops.
Can have several office apps open, email and local video playing and the fan remains silent. Open up a browser window with STW and the fan kicks in very soon after opening the page.
Not on every visit, but definitely more than one in 10 visits (which probably works out at least once a day!).
Apart from that, as been suggested, if new, then there are likely to be a load of updates being downloaded and installed in the background - which will take a bit more processing power and the fan may kick in.
Turn it off and on again?
Pretty much the go to fix from IT support 😉
Yep, no laptop should have fans running in normal use - it should be lukewarm on the back at most.
If the fans run and it's hot, then there could be some rogue process - unless you are playing a game or encoding video or something. Rogue processes are usually something crap that has been installed along with something else, or it's rubbish that the manufacturer has supplied. Rarely, it's malware.
Another option is Windows Update, which will batter your laptop when it's first used, for a few days, as it scans and works out what's needed to update.
Or it could also be a website with shitloads of video ads and the like.
If it's new then phone Asus support and ask them. Lots of laptops are noisy and it's pretty much the first thing I Google when checking out new models. It's possible that Asus have newer firmware that fixes it but it is also possible that the processor isn't properly being cooled so the fan will be on to fix that. Phone them while you still can
