Looking for a lock for a tent zip. The zips are quite flat so won't accommodate a standard suitcase lock.

Something flatter would fit. Any suggestions?

Nothing valuable will be left in there so it's just for peace of mind.

Ziptie? Bearing in mind you could probably still put a Stanley knife through the tent quicker than cut the zip tie anything else seems pointless.

Don’t bother
They would just go round back and climb climb under or slice tent.
My unkle in the 80’s used put his cash in a hole in ground under inner tent.
Hilarious when he forgot and had packed up for a 7 hour drive home. Got about an hour in and had to turn back to go dig his cash up in campsite 🥴

To be fair, anything is probably better than nothing. Some folk would probably unzip the door to have a nosey then pinch your phone charger. A zip tie / zip tie lock might stop them.

Its not unusual to see someone kneel down, unzip a tent and crawl in, so you would think some sort of small lock would be a help.
Problem as stated above is its easy to cut using a stanley knife. But someone using a knife it might be more noticeable,to other campers. In the anonymity of as campsite where you dont know anyone around you, who knows who is who and what their intentions might be.

The solution I think is to get to know your immediate neighbours if in a site, so theres maybe a chance they will unwittingly be watching your tent for you.

If not on a site then leave nothing take nothing certainly is the order of the day.

or suggest there is something worth the effort inside - phones, tablets, cash...

I doubt I would notice someone kneel down, run a stanley down the door near the zip and crawl in - unless they looked out of place.

Never bothered doing anything like that - depending on circumstances, everything valuable either stays in the car, or in the bag I carry with me.

Not leaving anything of value in there so just stopping opportunists.

You are not leaving anything of value

But you are hanging a padlock off your tent so that everyone knows?

Have you been camping before?

So your stopping folk from opening your tent ... To see you have nothing of value. But leaving your tent in tact for your evening snooze.

To instead. Leave an indicator there might be something of value there so they slash in. They don't steal your non valuables.,.. but you also now don't have a tent for your snooze ?

I'd say you're more likely making yourself a target if anyone is scurrying around doing dirty deeds. It's locked therefore there must be something worth having in there...

I fear you're more likely to get a cut tent than lose anything of value from leaving it unlocked. If someone snoops inside then you may lose nothing at all, if they cut their way in you potentially lose the roof over your head/the rest of your trip.

Edit: beaten to the punch by less than a minute! 🙂

Never, ever had to lock a tent. Anything valuable goes into the car if we leave site.

I think on balance I'd rather a would-be opportunist would pop into my tent, have a rummage about and find nothing of value other than a bag of sweaty socks, then piss off out again, than take a Stanley knife to the back of the tent.

Though I'd wager that's a more likely occurrence at Glastonbury than the Langdales.

I leave stuff unlocked/unattended in my tent all the time, even at festivals (nice ones and usually in crew camping admittedly) -never had anything nicked.

As above. Ziplock won't work.

I leave our tent fully open as a naive means of suggesting I haven't left anything valuable in there. Like car keys, wallet, tablet, minirig etc.

Would every would be thief bee carrying a stanley knife though ?. Theres considerably harsher penalties for being in possession of such things than not, and given tents arent usually locked, a would be intruder might not consider ever needing such.

They could cut their way in with just about anything, a 1" keyring swiss army knife would be perfectly "legal to carry" under the rules, a pointy enough tent peg could probably do the job... In fact all a lock on the zip does is helpfully confirm the tent isn't currently occupied and there's probably something worth stealing inside.

Surely the point of Criminals is that their not quite so encumbered by internal conflict when it comes to legal compliance in their actions?
You'll never hear a robber exclaiming "Damnit! I'd rob you blind if it weren't so bloody illegal!...

I'd say there's a higher likelihood of someone having a knife with them whilst out camping (and it's also a handy excuse).

If they're not out camping and instead are expressly targeting tents, again why wouldn't they take a knife?

In any case, if you know the first thing about physical security you can bypass a locked zip on something soft in seconds without tools.

Agree with most of the posters above. It's an utterly stupid idea.
