I know there's lots of TG haters on here, but not a bad way to spend an hour. Helps that Sweden looks bloody amazing.
I enjoyed it. They just seem like mates having a good time, occasionally chatting about things you'd only talk about with your best friends.
Really enjoyed it - definitely worth a look.

Slight Mortimer and Whitehouse vibes at times.
Really surprised Harris is 10 years younger than me.
He has no right to moan about feeling old!
I preferred the League Of Their Own road trips though.
Urgh, annoying Paddy McGuiness and a yet another potential TG script. Might be a while before I can convince myself to drink enough to have a look.
Watching it now. Still don’t rate Chris but he is improving, just lacks the personality that Paddy has for TV.
Entertaining enough and now looking at how to get my motorhome to Sweden, not as easy since they stopped the ferrry from Newcastle to Norway.

Surely motorhome and Sweden means ferry to France and roadtrip to Sweden...no?
I enjoyed that. Nothing like Top Gear

One option yes, a ferry to Norway from just down the road would have been a lot easer.
Newcastle to Rotterdam. Then the Frederikshavn to Oslo ferry for SW Sweden?
Or drive to Malmö? Or take the German ferry from Sasnitz?
Not watched this yet but we are planning a big road trip for our 20th wedding anniversary next year with our caravan.
Thinking of Harwich to hook of Holland, up through a bit of Germany then Kiel to Gothenburg and the Volvo museum!

You’re welcome, not everything in life is positive and afaik personal opinion is still allowed to be expressed freely.
Nothing like Top Gear
Good to hear, home alone Friday and celebrating 5 weeks of sobriety so I may give it a try, despite not enjoying McGuiness.
Thought that was alright. Will watch the rest of them.
I get McGuinness annoys some people, but my opinion of him shifted quite a bit when he was on Question Time - he was better prepared than most panellists and came across really well.

I tried to make it work for this summer mixing up Sweden and Norway. It depends how much time you've got but for a fortnight it's a lot of driving to get to the good stuff. If you boost up to get there it's tedious, if you try and add in interesting places it takes ages. 2 ferries makes it eye wateringly expensive.
To go to even the fairly accessible places like Trysil seemed to be considerably longer and more complicated than going to the Alps. Sticking in Southern Sweden would be easier but maybe misses out on the good parts.

An ideal opportunity for a Guinness 0.0 and McGuiness zero
I clocked it last night. I will watch it now.
This guy did Norway. We drove to and from Corfu in the summer over three weeks and it was tough at times. I was thinking this would be the next road trip, but I bet its expensive, Switzerland a few years back was tough feeling so poor, even buying veg in a supermarket made us wince!

Don't think the good old Volvo museum is at the factory any more. Think it is now "World of Volvo" next to the theme park with about half the exhibits 🙁
Cheers MrHoppy. Fortunately I won’t really have a time limit, but as it stands Sweden is a big trip. May have to consider flying and hiring instead.
Enjoyed that, not like top gear, more just 2 mates talking. Much better than I expected.

I've just had a quick look at this on YouTube and I'd totally agree.
Turned it on with low expectations and found it really entertaining and funny in places. Will definitely watch the next episode. It did help that sweeten looks stunning and has a good attitude to life.
Enjoyed the first two, got bored of the third as it involved bicycles.
It's a bit of lighthearted entertainment on TV which let's face it we need more of at the mo :-/ and good to see blokes' 50+ health being addressed, great scenery too, I watched the 3 episodes on iplayer, more please...
LOL Paddy is the funny one and Chris isn't so funny? Yadontsay??
He's the motoring expert. Paddy's an entertainer. Have you not seen them before?
Depending on your location, ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland and then a two day trip through the Netherlands, Germany & Denmark will get you to either Helsingborg (ferry) or Malmö (bridge). After that, pick a direction that involves "North".
North and West gets you Gothenberg and up towards Norway. North and East gets you Skåne, Västmanland and then Stockholm and the east coast towards Finland.
For a slightly different out / in drive, you can go out the short hop Germany to Denmark at Puttgarten, cutting out a chunk of driving for a not too expensive ferry (and there are a few not very exciting MTB trails at Mons Clint).
If you get up far enough to visit some of Norway, you can return via Ferry from Bergen to the top of Denmark overnight (seeing some interesting bits of coast in the afternoon/ evening).
I watched the first one last night after reading this thread. I was slightly disappointed overall – it had its moments but it felt like they focussed on some bits for too long (like the sauna bit). My wife correctly pointed out that it felt very similar to that road trip one with the three chefs.
And who goes to a sauna wearing shorts? May as well just wear a t shirt with "I'm British" on it.
Someone trying to act typically British for laughs.
Yadontsay??

I thought thought Chris had the funniest, possibly unscripted, line...
Paddy: Nice building
Chris: when did you start to have architecture sympathies....cos, I've seen your house.

Correct - the touring T5R is no longer in the display.
Paddy and Chris' V70 Cross Country was lovely - I wonder if Volvo lent it them as they are quite rare? (I very nearly bought a red one but it wasn't as described when I went to pick it up)
I thought it was great, thoroughly enjoyed it, in spite of Paddy, who I usually cannot stand. He seemed alright outside of his "comedy" persona.
Watched 3 last night. Definitely need to go back to Switzerland too.
Yes Paddy was more controlled in his character came out with a very line last night about short cuts. You can tell they are genuine mates despite being very different characters and backgrounds.
You'd be amazed at the large number of old Volvos and Saabs that are still on the roads. I nearly bought an XC70 Ocean Race when I was looking for a car (the trim level is really nice and having AWD is a positive in winter) and, because of the age of them (20+ years old) they are usually a bargain. like this one:

As long as people have taken care of it and the winter driving is away from salty roads, you can get some cracking cars. This 244 looks amazing:

Couple of episodes in, enjoying it. I'd heard Harris mention it on a podcast (maybe Rogan), and it sounds like he really had let himself go a bit too much for a couple of years so I think theres some truth in what he hints at on this show.
The only thing that does wind me up a little is the slight undertones of 'living in the UK is so miserable, people are all boring and fat, all we do is sit in grey offices all day', because theres not a single thing I've seen on the show yet that you cant do at home. However I also understand this is just the magic of TV, and of course they have to do that as its the pretense of the entertainment.
As mentioned above - if people havent watched Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip (theres a few series). I incorrectly assumed it was a cooking show when it was on and ignored it. My partner persuaded me to watch it and turns out its very much just like the very best bits of Top Gear with saucepans. Brilliant watch and a similar kind of show to this one.
theres not a single thing I’ve seen on the show yet that you cant do at home
This is very true.
This is very true.
Right to Roam is somewhat more restricted in parts of the UK, but other than that, it's attitudes that need to change.
Is this series some sort of severance package or did they have a contract for another series of TG?
Enjoyed it I think.
@joefm listen to Harris on Joe Rogan and it becomes a bit clearer why they have found something for them to do!
theres not a single thing I’ve seen on the show yet that you cant do at home.
it's a lot harder to avoid other celebrities doing travel shows with their dad/dog/family/another celebrity though
Watched all three, decent enough entertainment, but I agree the sentiment above, lots of UK bashing.
The bit in Sweden when he was lakeside and eulogising about seeing kids being outdoors, well he could probably go to any sailing club in the UK and see kids taking part. A handful is not a representation of an entire population.
Also, I did find the whole, stress free life//ditch the watch message a bit repetitive. I think the two surf teachers were alluding to the younger generation having cars, probably wanting to travel, expand horizons etc. As soon as that is an aspiration, then it needs money, and that inevitably leads to needing work, which then is dictated to by others, unless you are very lucky. So yes, the old timers on that Greek island might be healthy, but they may have never had the desire to visit Paris, for example, and possibly have spent their entire life without a passport.
If nothing else, great tourist trapping television. Switzerland looked stunning.
@Snotrag would you mind putting it into a sentence please? not sure what bit to listen to
Its a while since i listened but basically when the Freddie incident happend, he said the BBC just went full silent treatment on him, which as it was his first time being an 'employee', he found really hard - they went hard radio silence, no support, no comms, and even when he offered to help with lots of the investigation/unravelling of what had gone wrong it was effectively blanked. I think Paddy was probably in the same position too. Eventually they seem to have realised that you can't just dump/blank an employee indefinitely and leave them with nothing to do - and thus here we are.
thanks - well summed up
@snotrag
Chris Harris was an 'employee' of Autocar before going freelance
Are you calling young Snotty a liar? 😉

Merely correcting a mistake I would say 😉
