....Is there such a thing?

I want to pack up some of those cheap plastic drawers that you buy in Wilkos etc, obviously want to put them to good use by packing (light) stuff in them. Using brown packing tape will mean a permanent reminder of moving, is there some way of making them secure, tape or some sort of cheap banding/strapping?

Cheap duct tape is best, very strong and will come off cleanly if it’s not left on too long. The brown stuff is utterly vile. Alternatively you can get 2” rolls of clear tape for packing, which won’t leave residue if removed fairly soon. I used to help out with packing stuff for despatch and we used proper tape guns, usually with 2” clear tape, but sometimes with the brown crap, and it’s horrible.
Strapping requires specialist tools, and is a bit over the top, really.
This would be ideal, the tape gun is pretty much what I used, I’ve got one upstairs with a couple of rolls of tape, for taping up larger parcels...
Edit - bloody hell, what’s with Amazon and copying links that show a sodding Kindle error message! I copy the share link and it does the same sodding thing. 🤬

You need that stuff they use to tape fridge doors shut when they are first packaged up in the factory. No idea if it is commercially available.

Maybe this’ll work...

Hallelujah! This is the exact tape gun I have, the tape is much stronger than the brown stuff, and doesn’t shred into thin strips or leave the sticky residue.
Much easier to apply with the gun, you just tack the loose end in place, then pull the gun keeping the tape taught, then just twist slightly to cut the tape against the serrated cutter. Easy peasy. 😁

Rim tape, or at least the TESA version for example (of course there's always our own too). Its what it's actually designed for.

Thank you, I have access to a dispenser but for the cost I think I'll just order one. Rim tape idea sounds good too. Cheers.

We use masking tape at work. Easy to remove, surprisingly strong, leaves no residue if removed fairly quickly and dirt cheap.

Rim tape still needs tools IIRC, the glue is pressure sensitive so you need something to press it together, the idea is it's not tacky enough to stick to whatever it's packing up.

What you probably want is pallet wrap (i.e. tough clingfilm).

Electrical tape doesn't usually leave a residue either.

More specialist stuff, the Tessa cloth tape (I can't remember the model number) doesn't leave a residue, we use it to protect the paintwork on cars when fitting cameras. The downside, an acquaintance pulled the laquer off a Bugatti Chiron which kinda defeated the objective 😂

^ Yeah, pallet wrap is a very good idea actually. Don't know why I didn't think of mentioning that as it's what we used when we moved home. I still have a huge amount of it left (I just bought a bulk roll from Ebay.

Oh dear. I would imagine words were had. I’ve seen a Honda NSX in a showroom in Bristol, bright red paint, apparently £6000 worth - that’s probably the cost of the repair to that damage.
@johndoh - should have thought of pallet wrap, I’ve used enough of it over the years!
Perfect thing to use, just didn’t occur to me.

Or just a roll of cling film.

Thanks! A friend of mine runs a wholesale business and uses the pallet stuff so I now have four 'ends of rolls' which is ample for what I need!
