I impulsively booked a week in the alps, never flown with the bike before
easyjet not too keen on my original idea of using a cardbard bike box, its a few cm over size and cases seem to cost a bomb!
anybody around bristol got a bag they want to hire or know somebody who might?
1st week in Sept
cheers
Yeah I have an EVOC bag you can borrow (I'm in Bradley Stoke), it's the older version though so would struggle with a 29er/DH bike (I've used it for my road bike and 26" MTB fine before) 27.5" wheels might be a struggle to (the wheel pockets aren't very generous). If you're interested just PM me and we can go from there.
I've used these before and they are fairly local so could be even cheaper for you if they have availability
I'd push easyjet on the cardboard box, after all thousands of bikes are shipped around the world in then every day.

On ships in shipping containers mostly though.
You consider a bit of cardboard engineering to make the box smaller or go to a bike shop and get a smaller box. Might involve breaking the bike down further but that's no drama. Or just hope for the best when you get to the oversize counter. My bike bag bag is quite old and boardline for more modern measurements but no one has ever measured it to check.
We flew easyjet last year with cardboard boxes. The boxes we purchased from schipoll airport for the return flight were huge. As above i would get a smaller box from your local bike shop.
I fly Easyjet once a week, I often take my bike in a proper bike bag, but there are bikes coming off in cardboard boxes all the time, it shouldn't be a problem.
Cardboard boxes offer little protection so you have to pack the bike very well inside.
If you do go the cardboard box route make 100% sure it is within size and print out a copy of the regs to take with you. We got absolutely humped on that going to the states once despite having phoned twice to check the sizes. Misinformation from the call centre operative but we had nothing in writing so didn't have a leg to stand on.
Anyone got a link to max dimensions for a box as I was planning on doing the same thing the week before!
Assume this is an airport thing rather than a carrier thing as Easyjet don't seem to have any restrictions other than weight listed for bikes.
Polaris have their bag down to 210 quid less 15%
I've just bought one....
That evoc bag should work.
We just used the old one, meant for 26" + 700c wheels for Med 29er Enduro bike. We did have the let air out of tyres to squeeze them in, and removed mech hanger, but it did fit.
Don't have a link but live chat fellow said l+w+h must not exceed 275cm
