[Closed] Ow, that hurt. Is my fingernail going to come off?

Smacked my fingernail hard against something (seem to remember doing it, not sure what, might've been the bike stand) and now have a nicely black/green fingernail. Picture doesn't really do it justice, greeny tinge more evident under artificial light...

So is my fingernail going to drop off? Should I drip superglue down under the nail to stop it? Amputation the only option?

Four cans o special brew and a take-away will sort that.

Seriously tho - it will turn black then die and come off so you will be nail-less for a bit til the new one pushes through.

Not actually that much different to how I *did* deal with the pain last night TBH 😉

If it starts lifting off the nail bed, then yes it will eventually come off - but a new one will be growing underneath.

I got my thumb nail smashed between a dairy stock rail and a kick bar on a cow. It lifted and started to smell something rotten. After about 2 weeks of it being very annoying and smelly, I eventually went out to the car to get my pliers and pulled it out myself. Slightly more uncomfortable than pulling nose hairs.

Looking at my nail now you wouldnt know.

BTW when you pull it out. it's deceptive just how far into your finger the nail goes 😈

I've done similar and not lost the nail.

Lost heaps of toenails tho.

Doesn't look too bad but you may lose it. I have lost about 3 in 3 years. Just for next time if you do it properly go to a&e and have them drill the nail. Well they don't drill it anymore it looks a bit like an electric toothbrush! Heats a tip up red hot and fizzes throug your nail! It doesn't hurt (unless like did to me they get the nail bed nderneath!) What does hurt is having the finger pressed and squeezed for 10 minutes to get boood out!! So go early and while blood fresh should fly out!

If it's still sore, it's the pressure of the blood under your nail.
Have a go at boring through the nail with a pointy object to let some blood out.
Be brave. 😈

As stoner said, the nail is surprisingly long. A slab fell on my thumb and had to get the nail removed. Thought I'd lost my thumb and was somewhat relieved only to crush the tip.
