Oven repair - worth the risk?

We have a Neff oven which is probably 15-20 years old. Working fine, up until a power cut last week at which point the temperature control dial has stopped working. Everything else is fine, we are just stuck with either 160 or 220 degrees, which are the default temperatures for the oven modes. It's probably a tiny component gone pop somewhere, but a new control board is £200 and the call-out labour for mobile appliance repair firms is at least £80, which is getting on for the cost of a new Bosch oven. The dial is a rotary encoder on the control board, but it could well be some other component on the board rather than the encoder itself. I doubt a repair firm is going to start testing the board and changing individual components to diagnose it.

Bit of a longshot, but has anyone had this sort of issue before, and could maybe offer some advice as to whether to bother getting it repaired? It seems horribly wasteful to chuck away a nearly-functioning appliance and spend £3-400 on a new one, but also too much of a risk to spend £80 to probably be told it needs another £200 for replacement parts.

Ta!

Get the model number, go to the Ransom Spares site and find the temperature adjuster switch on the exploded diagram they'll most likely have. It's probably about 30 quid max and about half an hour to swap it. I've done the same on our hotpoint oven and it's been fine ever since.

The temperature adjuster is mounted direct to the control board unfortunately, which is about £200 on the few places that have it 🙁

If you Google the fault, is it a common diagnosis?

And remember, fixing it saves you thousands.  Because once you start looking at new cookers then it's an American fridge, I never liked those tiles, ooh, how about a new floor, I think the sink would be better over there...

We have had the heating element replaced twice on our neff oven, the third heating has broken.

Probably should have replaced it

I've not had that problem but the oven timer on my range master started misbehaving so I couldn't use it any more.  I just powered it all off, dismantled it, cleaned the rotary switch with contact cleaner and put it all back together again and it was fine.  15-20 years is the lifetime of most electronic stuff so if you can repair it yourself it is worth a shot but if you have to pay it is time to consider replacing imho as other stuff will start to go as well.

If it can come off the board, then yeah, try Ransom Spares or e spares. I haven't done that myself, but replaced oven elements and fans + some dishwasher parts with replacements from both those shops. Got to to be worth a try before you spend loads on a new appliance.
