Need to unblock a sink and found I only had oven cleaner.just wondered if there are any reasons it should not be used . do all these products have much the same constituents and will any of them do all the jobs mentioned or are they ingredient specific.I presume mr muscle oven cleaner contains caustic soda/sodium hydroxide although funnily enough doesn't say on the label.

Anyone in the know about these things and is it all a marketing con that we need 3 different products?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

I've used Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner, and I've used Mr Muscle drain unblocker... they smell very different!

Ingredients are listed here -  http://www.whatsinsidescjohnson.com/gb/en/brands/mr-muscle/mr-muscle-oven-cleaner

And drain unblocker -  http://www.whatsinsidescjohnson.com/gb/en/brands/mr-muscle/mr-muscle-kitchen-and-bathroom-drain-foamer_

Also, isn't oven cleaner generally a foam, designed to get into all the nooks and crannies, whereas sink unblocker tends to be a thick gel designed to sink down to whatever is gunking up your u-bend?

Thanks for those links..I feel very lazy now!Just noticed so many things we buy are similar but labelled differently/slightly tweaked so as to encourage perhaps unnecessary purchases.

Apparently Mr Muscle shampoo has the same ingredients too. So wash your hair with whichever product you fancy 😀

The oven cleaner also makes quite an effective pubic delouser.

Or go traditional and use something like bicarbonate of soda.

Its amazing to think how long we survived before marketing.

Why is it marketing and not technological advances in cleaning? I mean they used to throw their excretia out the window before the marketing men thought of toilets.

What do all the extra chemicals do, over and above what was used before? Make it quicker? Easier? Less effort required? At what cost? How does the ecosystem deal with the additional chemicals? We all harp on about the planet and being kind to it, yet rush off to get the latest thing that enables us to do something else, rather than cleaning. Like talking bollox on the internet.

And comparing the technology of sanitation to the point I'm making is quite frankly laughable, thanks for that. 😃
