Not sure of all the technical stuff, so apologies if I sound vague...

getting an error message when I try to open up a folder in Outlook, along the lines of: "The set of folders could not be opened, this error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is corrupt"

Now, I have had this problem in the past, our IT guys talked me through how to fix it, but I forgot to take notes and now I can't remember what to do! 99% sure they had me 'clear the outlook cache' or somesuch? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

My IT guy isn't online right now, otherwise I'd be asking him... the bugger of having a head office in Australia whilst you work in the UK!

cheers STW, hope you can help 🙂

Outlook uses a number of caches, but there's not really any such thing as 'the' Outlook cache. I suspect perhaps you're misremembering and thinking of Internet Explorer rather than Outlook.

There's various ways of fixing wonky PSTs, but can we start with an exact error message rather than "something like"?

Do you use an offline cache?

That shouldn't affect a local PST. 's why I wanted a proper error message.

Thanks for the replies chaps, sorry for the delay in replying! The error is a popup box with the following text:

Unable to expand folder. The set of folders could not be opened

Show Help>>

When I click on show help it says: This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:

Unavailable
Protected
On a share on a server and the network is down
Corrupt

I'm reasonably sure my IT chap had me 'clear' something either within Outlook or by right clicking on the icon and going into properties... can't remember which! It was a really quick 30 second fix, but I can't remember what it was! 🙁

in MS Outlook you right click on the desktop icon and click properties to get into the Internet Accounts

You've probably been sacked and your profile has been removed 😉

Do you use MS Exchange Server (2003/2007 etc) or do you get email direct from the net?

'tis all working OK on another PC... we have Outlook setup with (I think this is right!) a primary profile (my personal email) and a secondary profile (the stores email), so two emails to two different addresses, in two different mailboxs... my personal one is working fine on the problem PC, but the work one gives me the above error message when I try to open the mailbox...

thanks for taking the time to post chaps 🙂
