Bit of an OTB today and don't think the elbow hit the ground hard... (at least barely broke the skin) but I can't straighten my elbow or bend past 90 degrees.
Twisting the wrist is a bit painful at the ligaments inside the elbow so I think its some sprain or ligaments ... so don't really want to invest 4 hours of my life in A&E to be told "rest it, but nothing we can do" ...
I'm thinking this should be pretty common... at least for STW'ers if not the population as a whole so hopefully someone will have some experience.
Otherwise had a great day at Southampton Bike park 😀 really cool place to practice pumps and jumps ....
Well, they advise bent elbows when you ride, so I wouldnt worry. (I'm not a doctor or mtb coach )
Did the same once. Took 5 days before i went to a&e. Found out i had broken it.... i could still bend the arm. So just because you can move it doesnt mean its not broken
I had similar symptoms after falling off a boulder problem a few years back and slapping my hand down hard. I'd managed to fracture the head of the radius, it was very painful though. I didn't even hit my elbow, it was the shock transferred up my arm that did it
I went to my local walk in clinic to check it out, they sent me on to AE. Xray, sling, painkillers. No fun for 6 weeks.
Yes. May come sooner than you hoped if you continue with your otb antics.
It sounds like the same symptoms I had when I broke my elbows. Feels like sprained ligaments and twisting the wrist hurts. Doctors told me not to lift anything but keep them moving. Pop to A & E is my advice to be sure. If you have broken it, listen to the physio. It helps with maintaining the range of movement as much as possible.
You've broken it. Be glad it mild - I haven't been able to straighten my elbow in 8 years. 🙁
Bugger .... hoping it was just a sprain ... sounds like STW hive mind like it could well be something else so I'll get it checked later.
Cheers

Our local Woking Walk in has X-Ray so I'll check it out as Guildford A&E might be a LONG wait. I'l,l just check that out now ...
Yeah you need to get an x-ray unforts! Try and find a way other than a&e if you can, it's normally quicker and easier 🙂
Just recovered from a radial head fracture. 8 weeks ago I had exactly the same symptoms from an OTB at BPW.
Get it x-rayed. They'll likely just sling it, advise painkillers and (as said above) to keep it mobile but avoid loading it too much for a few weeks.
Yeah ignore A&E and ask for advice from here 😀
Hate to join the gang, but it sounds very similar to when I broke my radial head.
Especially as you're struggling to rotate the wrist. That's one of the things that took longest to fully come back when I did mine in. Though I did break my scaphoid in my wrist at the same time. Elbow was a breeze compared to that!

Here's your life ban.
Huh?
Sounds the same as mine and as others have said. Radial head fracture. About 6 weeks before I could lift anything heavyish or hold my own weight on it. But told to keep it moving.
Another vote for radial head fracture. Did mine three years ago, big vertical fracture, hurt like hell. Eight weeks taking it easy followed by physio. All good now apart from the occasional snapping noise
If you go to AandE take biscuits for the nurses and staff-you will be amazed how much gratitude you will be given
I had similar. Turned out I'd broken the radius head
I missed x-ray at the walkin but the senior type nurse was pretty certain and gave me a driving ban 🙁
She had some junior nurse fit a sling and I've got to go back for X-rays this morning but should be much faster than A&E
They even cleaned up a scratch on my leg and fitted some dressing which will pull the dirt out. Who'd have thunk these things existed, I'd have just stuck it under the shower head and then poured some antiseptic over
The experience was as pleasant as can be, much nicer than Guildford A&E .only 15 mins wait. highly recommended for anyone riding in Surrey Hills with a minor injury... (but radiology closes at 4pm).
what's wrong with RSCH A&E - only had good experiences there (apart from the other clientele at times)?
My mate is a consultant there, would welcome (honest) feedback

Just Waiting time. Everything that happens before your mate sees them.
Not the actual treatment but every time I had to go it involved hours of waiting (last time was emergency antibiotics for Dino cites and woking walk in had no doctor to prescribe so I got sent to A&E at Guildford and they were expecting me but it still took hours to just get to someone that could sign a prescription they had already talked to the nurse on the phone about so 6 hours queue and 30 secs to sign a prescription ... I guess it's the major A&E for a huge catchment and plenty would choose over the really terrible disaster constantly happening places like Kingston making it even busier.
Even if they had more staff they don't seem to have any room ?

Yup minor injuries or WIC was a good call, hopefully you get sorted soon.

Leading a night ride I called out to watch for the stump on the right which has caught out a few riders, 2 seconds later I clip the said stump at very low speed and I'm on the floor and my left forearm/wrist were killing me.
Went to A&E first thing the next morning as I couldn't extend my arm fully, and it was x-rayed and told I had a radial fracture, nothing we can do so put your arm in a sling for a few days, get it moving as soon as possible and come back to the fracture clinic in about 10 days.
When I went to the fracture clinic the doctor had reviewed my xrays and said there was no fracture just soft tissue damage, my range of movement wasn't great but said it should get back to normal. My wrist was still sore which they x-rayed and said it was just soft tissue damage as well. If anything the handlebar in the ribs was more painful and should've got that checked but never mind.
I was given the OK to drive if I felt I could control the car properly, given the OK to start running but maybe give it a bit longer till I'm back on the bike.
Needless to say everyone at work and in the bike club was amazed at my miraculous recovery from a fractured arm....
@Weasel.... that would be nice....
Follow-up tomorrow at Fracture clinic.
Embarrassingly the OTB was following Junior down a double run and thinking I would just swap lanes so I could get more air...then finding a wheel sized hole covered by grass..landing a pretty minor jump between the two... (note to self... don't land in foot high grass especially front wheel first)
I can see rehab going either: "Dad you better follow me down so you don't hurt yourself" OR "Dad I'll go behind you with the GoPro so you can send it in to GMBN if you OTB again"
Junior is going to be upset if I can't drive as he has 2 races next weekend! Neither remotely close to a station and 9 am registration. Worse the girls winner from his last race on Saturday is at the race next Sunday... and he suddenly seems very keen on that one 🙄
I was knowingly 'advised' not to drive...
So OP what was the outcome. Are you in plaster up to your neck?
