My son's bonnet release cable has become disconnected from the catch on his polo. We can see the detached end from underneath but cannot reach to manually activate the catch. All we can take off the front of the car is the vw badge the grill is fixed using screws accessible when the bonnet is open 🙄 Any ideas, solutions to his problem? (it's a gti so has an engine which is shoe horned into a fairly small space)

If it's much like the Ibiza's that share the same platform your shopping list will include a new plastic grill
You'll need to remove much of it to get enough space in there to try & hook the latch with something like a coat hanger all bent up
Bear in mind there's guards designed to stop access from the front though, you might be unsuccessful & have to resort to cutting the bonnet
