No personal experience but guy at work had endless problems with the roof leaking.
So much so that he eventually got VW to agree a swap for a new Scirocco.

Maybe he was unlucky and got a dud one but roof issues might be worth some research

Bad. Only driven by women of a certain age.

My mother in law had one. It was a shocker.

My folks had one - in their Early/Mid 60's. I've a feeling that might be the target market - this may or may not suit the OP! Unexceptional looks wise but I quite liked it in a sort of understated way. They had the 160hp 1.4l turbo/super charger unit one. I borrowed it for a few days away on the West Coast (Scotland) and enjoyed driving it. Boot was bigger than I expected too. I then drove it down to the south coast of England in the summer to sell it for my mum and on the motorway it was very smooth, quiet and comfortable.

Never had any leaks - and living in the Highlands that quality was certainly put to the test. I do remember they had to take it in for some sort of special greasing of the roof components though. Its a flipping complicated mechanism.

It also sold privately without any issue for not a bad price.

I don't think I'd buy one for me as I don't think it's a car I have a need for it but it suited them very well at the time.

I see motortorqueuk has stumbled across STW on a quick google.

Anyway, I'd happily recommend a Rocco. Had ours for 2.5yrs and it hasn't missed a beat (except for being half rebuilt after some idiot ran into the back of it). Room for a bike in the boot with the seats posted, handles nicely and still does 50mpg+ (we have the 2.0 TDI). Being a Cabrio, the Eos won't handle as well and will lose a lot of boot and interior space. If you like it though...

Been for a test drive?

Right.. MIL has one, we get to keep it for a few weeks every time she goes on holiday. I've done a lot of miles in it.

Firstly, the good bits
It's got the best standard fit stereo I've ever heard
Sunny day, roof down cruising its lovely.

Bad bits
Lets start with the bizarre speccing
Said stereo has no steering wheel controls, a massive no no in a modern car methinks
It's got 2 buttons to open the boot and the fuel flap, both of which are utterly spurious to requirements as you still have to get out and open them. Why do they just not lock and unlock with the central locking? Oh. They do. So those buttons are a waste of time
There's a button for the heated rear window, but to turn the heated mirrors on you have to twist the joystick control that adjusts them. Why are the two not on the same button just like every other car. That would make sense

Other stuff
The laggy 140bhb Diesel engine doesn't suit it. It's quick enough but it goes down the road in a series of turbo assisted spurts, rather than smooth creamy shove. Wrong engine.

Quality
Abysmal. It's is a 2008 car bought brand new.
It had an oil leak under 10,000 miles
The roof would regularly get stuck for ages necessitating much slamming of the boot to get e sensors to register
Than the boot would refuse to close
It pools water in the bottom of the doors somewhere that sloshes at your feet when you open them
It has nearly always leaked down the passenger window in even mild rain
The roof rattles like fek
It recently blew a hose off the turbo and lost 80% of its power on the M3

In short, avoid.
It's not as nice to drive or as well made as our 2005 1.6 Focus Estate. I don't bother driving it anymore when it's sitting on our drive, available for free.

Our Caddy has that. I'd always assumed it was van related - can't believe it's on the cars as well.

MrPP you forgot about the central locking - you have to press it twice to open the passengers door (it only has 2 doors FFS!)

This seems to be (or becoming) a standard VAG configuration. Certainly all the VW/Audis I've driven recently have been like this.

This too. It may be possible to get the configuration of this changed by the dealer. It's intended to stop someone climbing in to another door when you're on your own / in the dark etc.

Edited to get back on topic... My Mum (also early 60s... a theme is emerging here) has one (<12 months old). My Dad reckons it squeaks and rattles quite a lot, but I've not driven it. Mechanism is complex, but then it is on most of these folding hard tops. They seem to be something that many manufacturers are moving away from. That doesn't mean that the 'proper' soft top versions are any better - an A3 convertible I drove a reasonable amount quite recently (less than 6 months old) also squeaked, rattled and wobbled all over the place. It was pretty horrid.

My other half has got one 2.0 turbo diesel sport fairly rough ride but has a bit of poke it squeaks the roof that is never has leaked or failed in operation. The door handel has failed twice still in warranty. Plenty of room in the boot.

I have driven it never with the roof down though 😕
