Sorry for the numpty question
If in A1 is the figure 8.59 and I want to add 3.6% to it I put in box A2 =A1*1.036 and I get 8.899.
When I put into a calculator 8.59 + 3.6% that equals 8.910
Please can you tell me which is correct?
If the Excel one is wrong and the calculator is correct what equation do I use in box A2 on the excel sheet please?
Many thanks
the sum is correct, so do that on your calculator.
What do you get in your calculator if you do 8.59*1.036?
In Excel I get 8.89924
In MS Calculator I get 8.89924
and on my Casio fx-85 I get 8.89924
ur doing something rong.
My Calculator (MS Windows 7) gives 8.89924
anybody using a % button on a calculator gets what they deserve.
Sorry I don't understand your answer
Are you saying that *1.036 is correct?
And by adding 3.6% to the 8.59 on the calculator is the wrong way to add percentages to a figure on a calculator.
Can you tell I was $hite at maths
excel is correct, yr calculator iz csio
i think everyone is saying the way you are adding 3.6% on the calculator is wrong.
mine is
value x 3.6 <shift> <%key> <+key>
We're all saying the right answer is 8.9924 so either you're doing something wrong on your calculator or your calculator is cr$p 🙂
Thanks all

works on mine (Sharp EL-330ER)

Well not really, it's about knowing what you are actually asking the calculator to do or RTFM. On my calculator the sum would be
8.59 x 3.6 % +
to get the correct answer
Whereas if you entered
[value a] + [value b] %
you get the value of the percentage increase for value a to value b returned.
