I'm trying to copy my music collection from an external hard drive to the hard disk of my new PC. I thought this would just be a case of selecting all the music files on the external drive copying and pasting into the music folder of the new PC. All the folders have copied over but I now have each song duplicated within each folder. Any of you IT gurus out there know what I can do to resolve this? If it makes any differnce I'm running Windows 7. Thanks.

A screen shot would be helpful.

Are they duplicated on the folder when you view them on Windows Explorer or only in Media Player. If it's the latter, you need to remove one drive from the list of Libraries.

The duplicates are within the windows explorer files. It has 2 copies of each track - one named as artist, track number and name and the other as track number and name.

e.g. 'Animal Collective - 01 In The Flowers'
'01 In The Flowers'
'Animal Collective - 02 MyGirls'
'02 My Girls'
etc.

sorry I couldn't get a screen print to post

Are the duplicates on the external drive? If not, delete the lot and recopy.

Have you got iTunes or similar helpfully managing your music folders and renaming things?
