Whats the best way to get there? Planning a long weekend skiing in march and trying to find the best way to get to the resort. Is the Trysilexpressen bus reliable? - Only seems to have a few trips a day as well. Any other better ways to get to resort?
Buses in norway were quite reliable iirc
as an aside, it was expensive a few years ago, with our plummeting pound it nust be eyewatering!
bus station hot dogs are cheap though

😀 Good, doesnt look like we'll get to resort til after 10pm if we go on the bus!
Where abouts in Trysil are you staying?
We arrived at around 1:45am on our trip and picked up the apartment keys from the secure (actually just open) safe in tourist reception area.

Ours was late, very very late. But it was actually pretty cheap considering it's a 3-4hr journey. The lateness wasn't helped by some goofball at Aberdeen airport driving off a piece of equipment still attached to the plane creating a cancelled flight.
Oh, and if you've any questions about the bus the help desk at Gardamoen just to the right of the doors you exit for the bus stop proved very helpful with us.
The bus stop is not somewhere to hang around if it's properly cold.

Currently looking at the Radisson Blu Resort
the radisson blu hotel is very nice indeed!
buses are no problem, you can book online. hope the top of trysil is open for you!
£65 return which I think is up from £50 return, similar transfer distance from Turin is costing us £50 return this year so a wee bit more expensive perhaps.
You could hire a car, but it's not really like the Alps where there loads of nearby resorts you'd want to visit. And the two occasions I'd been to Norway for skiing was earlier than you and the roads involved a lot of thick snow and ice driving.
When we go again, we'll use the bus.
What will the snow conditions be like in late March?
its the best time to go in my view. no guarantee but longer days, plenty of snow and warmer. shluld be less wind too
The bus drops you off at the Radissons front door btw

Be aware that Oslo has 2 airports!

Polse or bacon polse staple diet of your average Norwegian!
I go to Trysil every other year, been about 5 times but only because I work in Norway, I wouldn't call it a resort, The Radisson is probably why they get away with calling it a resort. it is very nice though, and is ski out / in, but again like everything else in Norway it is very expensive.
Weather can be very hit or miss more miss for me when I go in either Feb or March, weather is a bit like Scottish resorts, can be very windy etc and changes really quickly.
Best way to get there is hire a car, I have never used the bus from Gardemoen but have heard it can be unreliable and it takes about 3 hours. You can get the train from Gardemoen to Elverum then get the bus from there which is about an hour away from Trysil.
There is nothing in Trysil apart from ski hire a cafe a overpriced pizza place and a shop so a car is nice to get to the main town which is 10 mins away.

How long does all that take? I did wonder about trying that but it seemed a faff with a lot of baggage!
Not sure, trains are good so as long as you don't have to wait too long for the bus at Elverum it should be a bit quicker than bus all the way, the bus does stop a couple of times on route. Train is really easy from Gardemoen.
3hr 51 on the bus
3hr 28 train and bus according Google.
3hr 51 on the bus
Think well get the bus rather than fannying around relying on 2 modes of transport.
Thanks for the responses, chaps.
Only a week or so before we go ow 8)
Still debating over bus or car to resort. Anybody any idea what road conditions will be like this time of year. Most hire cars seem to come with winter tyres on. Will this be enough to get us to resort?
