You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So the forum has asked me about privacy. I've tried to "opt-out". Less than 10% of companies will let me. I get messages like this..
"Opt-out requests for 85 participating companies were not completed. This may be the result of a temporary technical issue. Select "Try Again" to request opt outs from those companies again. Click "Learn More" for additional help."
If I get a "P", can I have my privacy back? Will it allow me to have none of this tracking?
I know this is not an issue generated by STW. but by how the web in general works. Am I going to have to leave the internet for good if I dont want the 200+ companies getting access to my browsing data.

Id do a cost benefit analysis of cutting myself off from the digital world vs a few companies knowing what I look at. Then keep using the internet.
Bear in mind this isn't new. You've been giving those companies data for years, they just have to make it more obvious now.
Just use your browser settings to block all 3rd party cookies and all tracking cookies - that gets rid of the worst of them does it not?
also other websites allow you to do this with a couple of clicks.
@tj, I'm not sure about cookie blocking. I'm not that technical regarding web things. I guess that is part of my wider question regarding internet use.
@tom, its a good idea, but I find it hard to quantify either side of the equation.
@kerlron, yep, I know its been going a long time, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't at least consider it now its more exposed.
I find it interesting that STW is pretty much the only site I've come across that lets you do "something" about it by becoming P. And the cost associated with that is £quantifiable. But I'm wondering if being a P really helps privacy, or just removes the ads.
/edit, oh, and I'd add, that this isn't just about privacy. It's equally about the whole issue of gathering data, and making it proprietary.
I don't believe it's P for Privacy.
I have a P and I can tell you that it looks like I'm subject to 2 trackers on here: facebook and skimresources. Skimresources is the ad platform I think and facebook is well... facebook and that tracker appears on a great many sites.
EDIT: I can tell you that Strava has considerably more trackers, one of which is also facebook.
Yep P is for no ads, we all get the same cookies from there (Unless one of the devs can comment differently)
