Any way to do this?
(I may be a little too embarrassed to mention why I need to know, but I need to know. Badly!)
Conundrum. You *can* open drop down menus using tab, the difficult part is telling the computer you want to tab through menu items, not items on desktop or in the window on firefox for example.
Can you use a mouse to hover? Or is it broken totally?
Oh, are you trying to kill an application with pron on it or something? If so, I can help!
Sounds like he wants a keyboard shortcut. I understand, being a keyboard man myself... 🙂
DD watch the tutorial on the apple site.
Edit...moose no idea 😳
Dd, shouldn't you have put one of these 😳 after your post? 😆
Command + D ?
Hmm maybe not
You can use ctrl tab to tab through windows or use cmd tab to tab between programs. If you need to close something and your mouse is broken, use cmd f, type terminal, tab to terminal app, open it, type: top -u and press enter, Look for the program name, and then look to the left. You will see a number next to it. Jot the number down, that is the PID, or Process ID, Type q, Type sudo kill PID (where PID is the number you jotted down), It will ask for your password, enter it, If the application is not responding to the kill command, sudo kill -9 PID will force the application to quit, To reopen the program, type open /Applications/[name].app, where name is the application's name.
Edit: if you have a trackpad - slap yourself in the face as I facepalm myself.
ctrl-f2 or fn-ctrl-f2 depending on keyboard, shifts focus to the menu, and arrow keys to navigate.
It's Ctrl-F2 then left and right, you need to press FN as well if it's a laptop (Ctrl-FN-F2)
removed cos it was wrong! 🙂

+1 forgot that one.
/troll mode on
I've never heard a windows user ask how to right/secondary click 8)
/troll mode off
😆
I've never heard a mac user ask how to turn the computer on slow. 😆
Thanks for the suggestions folks.
I've sorted it now...and how I sorted it is even more embarrassing than what I thought I'd done in the first place.
D'oh! I mean really...D'oh. Such an eejit.
My shiny new MBP bought this week is no quicker than my W7 PC 🙁
But it is quicker than my work laptop 🙂
We've got a good BYOD policy at work so Ive been experimenting with using it for work. It's been a steep learning curve and fairly frustrating with the limitations in office 2011 but at the same time, bodging some scripts together to work around the limitations in outlook 2011 has been enjoyable.
Ive created a cheat sheet of shortcuts 8)
Office is just a piece of junk anyway. If PC's weren't the most popular computers in the world we wouldn't have to put up with their shoddy at best software design. 😀
