I know there are loads of videos around, but cant open the case either with a stanley blade or the (useless) plastic tools that came with the replacement battery.
Any tips that wont involve destroying the ipod or my fingers?!

It will bend outwards. Can't be avoided. But when you put it back together push the edge hard against something like the edge of say kitchen work top and roll them back out.
Stanley blades and pry tools both break. Use something sturdier like a proper knife
Thanks. Problem though is that I cant get a thin knife blade, let alone a putty knife, in between the 2 parts of the case.
Between this, and trying to fix a Ragley hub, I wish I'd gone for a ride this morning instead!
