I need help looking for what seems to be the Holy Grail of open fire paraphernalia.
I'm after a plastic or hard rubber coal scuttle/hod as I'm sick of using cheap, crappy metal ones as the handles break off usually within a week and after a couple of months they just rot away.

If anyone has any idea on a supplier I'd be eternally grateful, I've scoured the net and can't find anything anywhere!

cheap, crappy metal ones

Buy a proper, well made metal one instead.

What are you doing to them that they rot so quickly?

Would an antique metal one be more substantial?

Not doing anything in particular they're just made really poorly.
The handles usually pull off first as the metal is so thin and the build up of wet coal dust in the bottom kills them!

Have this one, all stainless steel ‘Solo Stove Ranger Fire Pit’ as it is quite portable for out in the van.
The one you see in the film ‘Ride Local Trails’ is a Höfats Cube. It flips over to smother it.

Might be worth looking at local blacksmiths, I imagine this is about the only way to get something that is designed to last, rather than a cheap pressed steel item or a shiny ornament.

I had a similar frustration finding something something to clear the ash from my fire (its converted to wood so there is no griddle or ashpan) After several years struggling with the stupid long handled spade that comes with the brush and poker, or a garden trowel, I found this after clearing out a load of 60's stuff from a warehouse at work...no idea what its called but the lack of a handle sticking out the back makes it perfect for the job.

@channeld nice as those fire pits are they are not what the op is talking about.

Maybe I don't burn coal fast enough for it to be an issue (ours is all dry in the bunker) however can you do anything about keeping the coal dry? Or try a metal that doesn't rust like brass?

Edit: not suggesting that crap products are acceptable just seeing if there is anything else you can change that would get more life out of them. E.g. handle attachments can be beefed up with spreader plates and bolts if it's crap welds breaking.
