The futures bright , the futures [s]green[/s] grey -ish

Then i stepped back from the looking glass , returned whence i came through the wardrobe and instantly said to myself " I dont think we're in Kansas anymore " , then I woke up and it was all dream .. ... i think

If it helps, even when the page opens it loads in stages. Scroll down too fast and and you get a white screen which then fills progessively.

Looking at the developer tools there must be something wrong with the .js files in the background. The rest of the site loads in no time apart from 4 files.

I’m finding it “slower” but not slow.

But then, I’m a bit slow myself.

Slow doesn't begin to describe it !
Anything to do with the sheer number of folks visiting the site all at once ?

Oddly it was very slow 15 mins ago (on a chromebook using my OnePlus as a 4g hotspot) whilst the BBC website was quick - but now STW is very much back up to speed.

So what did I manage to view earlier ?

It was all Times New Roman font with green tinge to layout.... didn’t like it at all

Being back the forum as it was way back when I say.

Slow for me on iPhone but has been for months now. Clearing browsing history did used to resolve it.

Edit: I must have entered a parallel universe. No sign of the thread I posted on earlier

Update = I can now see ‘P’ against some people’s names. Privileged, petulant, procrastinator or amazon prime ?

Hi Guys, so we (myself, Andy and Tom) had big hopes for today that haven't panned out yet. To be honest it's been a massively frustrating day in the tech corner. We started at 4am this morning and it was meant to take just a few hours to bring you an upgraded forum, which is the first stage of a larger plan The challenge and what has got the best of us today is how to build a system that can take the existing 8 million posts and still handle up to 1000 concurrent users. It was a load thing and we felt sure we had it but something in the database wasn't working right and it ground to a halt pretty quickly. We have ideas as to how to fix it and we'll regroup in the morning but to be honest we all went home earlier this evening utterly knackered promising ourselves we wouldn't look at the forum. As it happens we can't stay away. Tom has already been in poking it during these random slow downs and I thought I'd give you an update before I head for bed.

Tried to get on a little while ago, and the site just sat doing bugger-all, so restarted the pad, still a lot of bugger-all, closed it down, re-opened it, and it eventually opened up, now I’m wondering what, if anything, has actually changed.

It's taking roughly two minutes for each page to load on my iPad using Safari.

This will make witty retorts and snappy comebacks somewhat problematic

So I'm guessing people impatiently smashing F5 as pages fail to load is gaining more in ad revenue than that lost by people that can't be arsed to wait.
Hats off to the owners for actually posting about the "changes" though, unlike when so many users were getting dodgy porn redirects and nothing was said, other than at the same time gloating about the increased ad revenue from the Ling Cars thread.
That was really ****ing classy.
Keep up the good work! 😀

P here for a long time now, pages as always take fractions of a second to load.

I still struggle with why there are so few Ps, with the benefits associated, considering they're getting a free forum i'm not sure non-Ps have a lot of grounds to complain.

Support the forum... Get your P.

The non-P people are supporting the forum. Due to the way it is designed, the extra clicks result in an increase of revenue by those with adverts on. This has been done to death...the non-P people aren't getting this for free as the usability of the site is impacted to generate more money from them due to how the forum works (ads in the middle of pages, unable to jump to the last page so having to do an in-between page visit, forum content loading after the adverts, etc.)

Err? I'm non-P and getting to the last page or post in a thread is a one-click operation. To get to the last (or any) page of a thread click on the [1] [2], etc links, to get to the last post click on the "xxx minutes" Freshness text.

Providing free content that Mark is monetising aren't we?

Unless you think people come to this site just for the ads.

Quid pro quo.

Mark pays for the forum, we talk the shite, people read the shite, people also see the ads, Mark gets paid for people seeing the ads, Mark uses that money to pay for the forum......and so it goes round and round.

You're assuming that the advertising on the forum pays for the actual forum, let alone the people who help run it too.

When the time comes and STW towers falls down, all the people will be screaming on Fb. But its all their fault.

and more to the point do you thing the forum would still be here if it wasn't publicly available for anyone to find, read, join and contribute too?

When you first found STW would you have taken out a paid subscription just make your first post?
