My parents are moving to spain shortly so i am trying to find a solution where i can put films somewhere that my dad can pick up and watch. I have set up a google drive and onedrive account but it seems transferring films to them takes literally hours! Is this indicitive of online storage areas? Is there a better alternative that i have missed/forgotten?
If you're on ADSL, uploading speed will be a fraction of your normal download speeds.
By films do you mean copyright material? Most cloud services will frown upon that and maybe block it (see mega upload and Mr dot com being extradited from nz to the US)
Legally owned films Mike.
Cougar - yeah its adsl so it is a bit pony but at over 3 hrs for a 900mb file was too much of a wait.
I might have to try and give access to my nas box to my dad which might be a disaster in the making.
By legally owned do you mean home videos or things you have ripped from dvd/bluray? If former fine, if latter I dare say they would still frown upon it regardless especially if you are then distributing them.
If you give access to your NAS then the uoad will probably be the same. You could host something like owncloud yourself or use bit torrent sync https://www.getsync.com/ use it to set up distribututed shared stuff. More sources speed up sharing but also it could get slowed down if your isp blocks torrents.
Also just because you own the dvd/file doesn't mean you can share it ie it's how mega upload dies off
