One of the more random forum requests:

Does anyone have any experience of using an online supplier of seafood?
For various reasons I shan’t bore anyone with I would like to get hold of a regular supply of monkfish that I seemingly can’t find on ‘the high street’

There are a number of online suppliers - does anyone have any experience / recommendations?

Thanks.

On my ride home from work, I pass a big commercial frozen seafood wholesale place. Apparently it is used by lots of caterers, restaurants and traders in London and SE. They also sell direct to the public. They lend you a big jacket so that you can browse the shelves in the -18c warehouse. If it once lived in the water - they have it. Good value too.

Anyway, PM me your address and I can regularly post you some monkfish - Royal Mail 2nd class post ok?

Not bought online, but always make a point of visiting Kallin Shellfish in the Western Isles, when we're out that way, best crab I've ever had! I remember they claimed to ship unfrozen with 24 delivery in some kind of coolpack, can't seem to find the detail on the website right now, but this would be an important consideration for me, much better if it's not been frozen.

Otherwise, depending on where you are, we use Holmfirth Fresh Fish, who drop by our door every couple of weeks with a van full of goodies!

I've had some nice fish from thecornishfishmonger before. Not cheap but was good quality and delivered in decent cool boxes.

OP - waitrose sell monkfish; if there's one local to you, go and talk with them.

Costco near me ( Gateshead ) usually has whole monkfish tails, better than from a supermarket although a proper fishmongers will no doubt be fresher
