Online running plans?

I try to mix in a bit of running with my riding just to keep me in a bit better shape overall but I'm not great at the running part.  Typically at this time of the year I plan on hitting a 20k in May and then start a plan but inevitably I overdo it, injure myself, rest, overcompensate to catch up, injure myself etc and it's a mess.   This time I'm using an online plan, TrainAsOne, and it seems to be working ok as it adapts to the actual runs I do and if I miss any or put any extra in then it moves things around to not overload me.  So far zero injuries as it is biased towards easy runs at the moment

Does anyone else use this particular plan and can add anything or is there anything else I should be looking at?  I know that Garmin also do adaptive plans if you go up a watch level or two and those plans will take into account your riding as well but again I have no idea if that is worth the cost.   Anyone any idea if this is cash pished up the wall or actually useful?

I wasnt aware of that website. Looks very interesting and I have signed up as well but for the free version to start with. I am a pretty experienced, (albeit old now (59)) runner so I may give some feedback once I have tried it for a while but thanks for posting the link.

I followed a Garmin running plan earlier this year, building up to a 38km off-road run in August. I liked that it threw up varied workouts, with intervals, pacework, base etc. I stuck to it about 80%, mixing it up with riding, weights and stretches. It certainly did the job for me, as I was able to maintain that fitness into November for my first (only?) Ultramarathon.

I'd certainly be open to following a similar program. In fact, I'm going to look at Zwift training plans over the winter to see if I can improve my ride fitness as much as I improved my running fitness.

@surfer - let us know how you get on.  I let it read in all of my Garmin stuff so it did a good job of setting the initial level.  I also really like that I can block out the days I know I'm going to be away or the days I know I'm going riding instead so the plans tend to be quite sensible.  Most people seem to get wound up by the super short runs as it barely seems worth the effort but at the moment I tend to fit them in around a ride where I just lock my bike up, go for the super short run then go on with what I was doing (as long as I'm not fitting it into the middle of a super hard ride of course)

@scotroutes - does Zwift do plans for both running and riding or would you use Zwift for the riding part and Garmin for the running?  I'm not attempting to break any records, just am getting a bit older so got to pay a bit more attention if i want to keep up with the young 'uns

Not that I've seen as it's really only setting a plan for your virtual activities and I don't have a suitable treadmill.

@scotroutes If you have a treadmill you can just buy a footpod which enables Zwift

I followed this one last year for my Trail Ultra, went from being fit-ish but having a bad bout of Covid in late March to running a 50k Trail Ultra in the first weekend of July. The main thing I found it help me with was when it told me to take a day off, I did. Especially in the early stages where running 4 miles on Saturday and resting until Tuesday seemed utterly pointless but I did the whole thing with zero injuries and pretty good motivation throughout the whole 12 weeks:
