I rent out a property at a distance and had it marketed and managed by Purple Bricks - found us an excellent tenant really quickly - managed the property on our behalf since then. Quite sure the would have been better or better value options out there but it suited us fine.
Over the last wee while though they;ve really declined - gone from having a named contact with in the organisation that we laise with to a catch all email address from which responses were slower and it was difficult for requests to get followed up - and in the last couple of months theres been zero response from any emails to that address. In that time their fees have increase by a fair old chunk.
Anyone better out there?
Not sure I would use an online one if i could avoid for just that reason. Last letting agents i used grew too big and started charging for everything and not being effective. I just walked around the area where the property was, looked in on a couple of agents and found someone who was friendly and had a team of people to do small jobs so that tenants always got things fixed quickly. They've been great and using smaller folks seems to result it always having s named contact, even if that changes from time to time
I self manage from a different country, it's easy now with WhatsApp just get a good general handyman. My tenants prefer it as they seems to act more like owners, just done the rent increase. Probably works best with stable tenants. Not had a problem in 20 years.
