Which sites do you recommend for games against real people and/or computers?
Thanks in advance.
Dennis Bell of Torquay - if you're reading this, no need to respond, ta.
Do you mean live games or chess by email?
Can't recommend anything for the former, but can recommend the International Email Chess Club for email http://www.chess-iecc.com/ (live opponents only)
Was thinking of live games, but might give that a pop.
The suspense of waiting for the fatal blow after you've submitted a terrible move must be unbearable though.
Thanks.
.or having to wait for a reply when you play your carefully designed master stroke
I use Babas Chess to record moves and work out strategies - recommended, but if you try out IECC you get a try game and can chat with one of their mods. All very friendly and approachable
Chess.com is awesome for live games. Always between 7 - 10k players online at any one time so can always get a game. Depending on what you want, its free to play and you can also enter a limited amount of tournaments per week, plus they broadcast lesson lecture type things all the time. I play 5/0 Blitz games on my Android quite often. Sportsmanlike to asshole player ratio is fairly high: meaning I only get insulted for no good reason about 1 in 10 games (you don't even have to win (or surrender) to get called a "cheese eating surrender monkey"; if you do win, its always my mother who gets insulted ?!?). In fact, some of the insults are so entertaining its worth signing up for that alone (I might release a coffee table book of internet insults) 😀 But seroiusly, its no worse than anywhere else for hassle.
I know its a bit g*y, but if you want, you can add me on chess.com - I'm "Oldgwegg"
if you want to play games with people you know facebook has reasonable chess apps
