Hi

We're trying to support my daughter, who struggles with acute anxiety and is autistic, to do A levels outside of a normal college. We've got tutors for 2 subjects and thats working well. She wants to do Ancient History A level and we can't find a tutor so are looking at online platforms.

There are a number of platforms. Can anyone recommend which one has a good/the best reputation?

Many thanks

You'll probably find the same tutors are on all the platforms as it costs them nothing to sign up. However, the fees to the client vary massively between them. I found a French teacher on one, but the platform wanted something like £25/month for all eternity to be allowed to connect, whereas I just found the same teacher on another and got her details for a one off £15 fee. After that, just deal direct.

NB That's if you just want a tutor etc.

There are platforms which provide the whole course etc inc tutor support if you want to do an A level completely in your own time eg https://www.nec.ac.uk/course-categories/a-levels/

I know this woman vaguely. I met her once on a photography forum trip to London. She acted as a guide for part of the trip, I can’t imagine her not being brilliant as a history tutor

I’ll add  our experiences as a family of a similar situation . Party as the outcomes are positive and partly to show you another option.

For physical and mental health reasons my daughter didn’t attend school in years 9, 10 or 11. She sat her gcse in our front room having  had just 4 hours tuition a week from the school

She left school at 16 as she didn’t want to be the girl that didn’t attend any more. So instead she did 2 open university units. These are structured for home delivery and hers had no exams. She then applied to university to do creative writing at good universities but not Russell group or competitive. She got offers from all 5 universities based on the open university units. To our amazement she went to university and despite covid she got a degree. Ok there were ups and downs on route but she exceeded what we thought was possible. Since university she has had a couple of jobs. She is currently in France  learning French

Oh and the university provided an 18 week set of counselling sessions, maybe we paid for 6? They really made a huge distance

Thanks both for your very positive and helpful responses. We'll have a look. @Ampthill your story sounds like a carbon copy of our experience so helpful thanks. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply
