Has anyone had problems with a One Up Dropper Post? Mine is a year or so old, V2 model, been working fine, but now it’s completely seized in the extended position. Took it into LBS and he was stumped as to what’s wrong with it. It’s straight forward to service, but now it’s impossible to dismantle as it seems well and truly stuck. Any ideas would be welcome 😀
Get in touch with oneup their customer service is fantastic
Stuck as in the post won't compress or stuck as in you can't move the plunger to make it drop?
What was the temperature like when it was last fully extended? Noticeably colder than now? What can happen is that the oil inside expands as it warms and locks it out. Always worth storing a dropper post with about an inch of compression on it for this reason.
You could try cooling it.
Could be a dud cartridge which is an easy fix - OneUp will send you a replacement no questions asked if its still covered by the two year warranty. But you say that you can't even disassemble the post which wouldn't be the case if it was just an issue with the cartridge which also has me stumped. Could be a jammed pin, mangled or stuck bushing etc?
If not done so already, try taking the seat and mounting hardware off, letting all the air out the Shrader valve (cover with a cloth in case something has blown and oil comes out), unscrewing the weird little silver threaded washer with circlip or needle-nosed pliers and then unscrewing the bottom green actuator with a wrench and then the cartridge will drop out.

Cheers buds, I contacted OneUp last night and managed a live chat with Tom, in Canada ! I filled in their warranty form and the next thing
I know, Tom’s saying they are sending me a new V3 post at no expense to me! Couldn’t believe it! They don’t want me to send my post as it’s the V2 model which they don’t make anymore. Brilliant customer service from OneUp! 🙂
Remember dealing with Tom when I was getting some bars. He just loves chewing that fat about bikes. Top chap.
Reminds me of walking up to the Fox Shocks stand at the Vail Worlds Expo area in ‘94, was it? I had my Cannondale SuperVee 3000 with me, and the bloke on the stand asked to have a look at my bike. He bounced it and pushed the rear up and down, put the bike on a stand, took the rear shock off, tossed it into a bin, unpacked a brand new one and fitted it, set the pressure and handed it back! When I asked what I owed, he said “If I was going to charge you, I wouldn’t have invited you in!” Top service, that!
Mine did this just this week! I was just removing it to try in another bike and returning it then this happened.
Out of warranty though so I’m going try the steps above before seeing what Tom suggests.
Thanks for the “post”, and the ideas.
Same issue with mine. Mud dried out inside the post and the only way to push it down was with a soft hammer. Then I dismantle it , clean it and built it back and it's all working again. A bit of play though now.
Interested to read this. I had a brand-x dropper for years on my old bike/frame. Think I re-greased it once or twice in the six years I had it and it just kept on trucking.
New frame last year and I needed a longer dropper. Got a OneUp V2 240mm as it was cheap on eBay and brand new un-opened etc.
Anyway I've had to clean and grease it twice in about six months. Bit surprised to be honest as reading all the reviews everyone raved about them.
I mean greasing it every 3 months isn't a massive drag as it takes about 10 minutes and it does have a little bit less play than the brand-x. So in the grand scheme of things it's a very minor problem.
As above, mine needs a lot of TLC compared to a cheapo Brand X. I think they’re easily serviceable because they need to be. I’ve not been impressed by mine (200mm V2) at all. It always seems sticky.
The issue with the V2 is that the seal is really crap, which lets in mud and grit but also lets the grease out. You need to pop the collar every month if you ride a lot and regrease around the white plastic bush.
If you live somewhere warm and dry and don't ride in wet conditions they will give you absolutely no bother, so not great for the UK.
V3 has an SKF-made seal which they claim works better. You can also buy a retrofit SKF seal kit for the V2 but I've only seen them on OneUp's own website.
@Gilles they do an oversided pin set which you can use to take play out - https://www.oneupcomponents.com/pages/oversized-pin-kit-install-instructions
Thank you, sounds like that will fix it!
Depends on why it is not moving down. If the lever will not depress (and the cable / housing is good), then the cartridge is probably hydro-locked. Sometimes the lever will be hard to press for the first time, and then subsequent presses will be fine. I solve this potential issue by storing the bike / post with the post pressed down a couple of centimeters. Never seizes then. Had the same issue with an old Tranz-X post. OneUp warranty the above issue no questions asked on the odd time that is an issue.
The post can of course seize through contamination, but pull it apart and a good clean / grease will have it working well in a few minutes. I bought a 'dead' one for $20 the other month and it felt like new within 10 minutes.
Let us know how you get on ade9933, I’d be interested to hear how it goes! With mine, I can’t separate the lower from the upper tubes, tried some silicone spray and left it for a day, but it didn’t budge. I also let all the air out but, nada!
