But at least it's a start. First one I've seen today - down in Devon (west of Exeter). Don't envy it the rest of the week.

Anyone else seen one yet?

Loads of them on our allotments in South-central Leamington spa.

Although could they be swifts?
I never remember the difference...

Swift's are bigger, wings are a little more curved and "scream" as they're bombing around.

my ground was frozen under a layer of hail this morning.

Its miles off*.

Swallows are epic blue/black and white. Swifts aren't.

* I did get sunburnt on the old bald spot on saturday though. What hat for a baldy?

...but it can make your day!
IGMC
Even though it was freezing today, the birds didn't seem to care and were in full voice. Not seen swallows yet though.

Seen a couple here in E Shrops earlier this week, but I have a sneaky feeling they may just have buggered off south again today, tails metaphorically between their legs. Too early for swifts in most of the UK yet, they dont tend to appear until late April or early May.

We get them nesting in a wooden shelter in our paddock every year. Like the return of the curlews in March/April it's another milestone in our year we always look for. We've not seen one yet this year. My wife painted this inspired by our annual visitors.

.

Available as a limited edition print if anyone is interested 😉

The local Peregrines are nesting so looking forward to them tearing it up soon. Otherwise just shedloads of red kites and a pair of Lesser Spotted woodpeckers and at least one Greater Spotter.

One swallow does indeed not make summer, but it makes a good night out.

Saw some sand Martin's this week which was nice

Not seen any swallows yet, although I was out walking around Avebury and Biddestone on Sunday and yesterday, skylarks were out singing their little heads off, and I saw my first bluebells yesterday.

There's a lot to be said for a flighty bird.
