Seems like at this point if he’d said 20 mins at 0400 isn’t sufficient, they could have agreed to extend until people were available and spoken directly to the parties involved?
That appears to be their standard shtick for every normal person who's turned up and been found to be planning to abuse a tourist visa. You get a few moments to argue against their decision to put you on the next flight back, then they reject those reasons!
It is also difficult to see him not overtake Pete Sampras as the most disliked number one
Pistol Pete was disliked? That must have passed me by. I'm sure Ilie Nastase spent some time at the top of the rankings, and he doesn't exactly shy away from being an arsehole!
One seriously good bit of news to cheer us all up…
In other news Michael Gove got stuck in a lift.
They also let him out.
What with him and Novak, it must be the day for releasing objectionable people.

I despise him so much for the tedium he brought to the game - I just assumed it was universally true. Apologies Pete if you are reading - it seems I have spoken out of turn.
Just saw the bbc clip where the journalist asks his family if he was at an event on the 17th and they brother smiles smugly and adjourns the press conference
Appears it’s not just Novak who is a despicable individual, the entire family come across as xxxxs

Not surprising really is it? Novak has to work for his money, they just have to be his family for Novak's money.
They're not about to throw him under the bus are they?
Was he only spreading his Covid around Serbia or did he also go abroad during that time? If so, please tell me there's a country that wants him extradited from Australia to be held accountable for Covid-related misdemeanours. Wishful thinking, perhaps.
What a clown, though.
Would be nice if his sponsored reconsidered their positions in light of this.
I've just read the news on this - and my thought was that some of his sponsors might exit asap after this.
lets hope he gets an extra long cotton bud vigorously shoved up each nostril every day he arrives to play.
Was he only spreading his Covid around Serbia or did he also go abroad
Well he was inbound from dodgy Dubai but obv may have been in transit rather than stayed. Are there direct flights Belgrade to Melbourne?
Beeb says he flew in via Dubai.
Top Trolling of Farage from Andy Murray 😀
Linky?
Thanks. 👍
So how was he originally intending to enter Australia?... what a stroke of luck catching COVID 3 weeks before he was due to travel
So how was he originally intending to enter Australia?… what a stroke of luck catching COVID 3 weeks before he was due to travel
What are the odds he catches it again just before the French Open?
On the way home tonight a tennis journalist was on the radio and said apparently someone got hold of Djokovic covid test cert and when he inputted the code (qr code or whatever) it showed as a negative result, but once word got out it was changed and now shows as positive.
When you link it to the exemption cut off being the the 10th, the photos after he was supposedly +ve now this above its all a bit iffy.
The whole thing stinks
A quick look on his twitter account though and it’s frightening how many people seem to hold the guy in some god like esteem. They genuinely think he’s some kind of saviour, rather than some self entitled , selfish, nut job. I saw a few people likening his stance to Mohammed Ali… ffs
Luckily they’ll all be disappointed when he gets turfed out in next 48 hrs. The Aussies won’t like people rubbing their noses in it and too many people including his moronic family are coming out with ‘it’s a victory over Australia’ nonsense. That’ll be a sure way to get kicked out..
It’s evident that the Serb authorities would turn themselves inside out to support their man. I’d be entirely unsurprised if the whole infection thing has been manipulated or fabricated.
Latest news - Novax's traveller declaration says he hadn't travelled in the 14 days before his trip to Australia from Spain but he's pictured in Belgrade on December 25th. Link.
There's no room in the Melbourne Open for him, perhaps he should join our government? (channelling Not The Nine O'clock News Constable Savage sketch)
As to how Djokovic arrived in Aus' local press are reporting he travelled from Spain to Dubai but didn't declare had been in Spain in his documentation
"Djokovic stated he had not travelled in 14 days prior to his January 6 arrival in Australia. Djokovic had in fact been in Belgrade on Christmas Day and then appeared in Marbella in Spain on January 2....
All travellers arriving in Australia are asked if they have “travelled or will travel in the 14 days prior to your flight to Australia”. "
You can get 12months in prison for a misleading declaration...press saying Djokovic blaming Tennis Australia as they completed his declaration
Story in TheAge but paywalled

That seems unlikely to me. if you wanted a positive PCR result in the UK all you need to do if find a friend who definitely has covid, book an appointment and send them to the appointment with the booking bar code - in my experience, there were no ID checks (although it told you to bring ID). Now you can be pretty sure that somewhere like Aus which is tight on border security will check every arrival's record, including scanning the QR code.
These border systems seem to rely on scaring the shit out of the traveller seeking entry with declarations and threats of rejection and deportation. So you get you paperwork right.
Djokovic clearly feels he's untouchable, has swanned round doing what he wants regardless of rules, and why the Aussies treating him as a pleb was such an affront.
The whole thing stinks
Is the most succinct summary of the situation.
Its strange how the stupidly rich have been flying around the world on private chartered jets throughout the pandemic and it literaly goes under the radar.
Couple of private jet pilots I know have been flat out last 18 months.. no issues strangely.
still, pick someone to nail to a cross and enjoy yourselves.
Watched the news coverage of this last night. Who are the buffoons that take time out their day to go down and camp outside his hotel in Australia to give him support? How hard of thinking do you have to be to spend your valuable time on earth doing that?
^ exactly that
A brief look in his twitter page reveals a fair number of absolutely fanatical fans, to the point it’s down right creepy
The thing I can’t get my head round is why these people think Djokovic is doing this for anything other than his own benefit. People genuinely think he is taking a stand for the freedom of mankind, it’s bizarre
And whilst I’ve heard plenty of chat about how he’s been a prisoner for 3 days (even though he could have left at any time), has he or his family even acknowledged the hundreds of poor buggers who are genuine refugees stuck in there for the foreseeable?
still, pick someone to nail to a cross and enjoy yourselves
You're right, we're the problem, not him.
Sitting up here on our high horses with the audacity to think the rules should apply to us all equally.
Disgraceful.
I'm confused about this again...apparently the Australian government have the power to cancel his visa again (or recancel or something) - so why haven't they? There seems to be evidence that he hasn't been truthful on his visa (despite whoever it was that filled it out - surely you'd check the details?)...so are they just giving him more rope or is there a time-delay before they can pull the plug again?

I suspect fear of further court action. I wonder if legal wrangling & triple checking is happening. IF they can, I think the Australian Government and most citizens seem happy to kick him out.

Excellent.
RM.
how long do they have to serve papers?
how long do they have to serve papers?
[edit - genuinely a system glitch, not solely so I can make a crap joke about second serving his papers]
Apologies if already done. 😀

Well they're not grabbing pitchforks but it seems they're not exactly turning themselves inside out either.
BBC News - Up to tennis star to explain PCR grey area, says Serbia PM
At this stage, what mystifies me the most is why the Australian authorities are still pussy-footing around this issue?
I can't believe Novax has a legally water-tight defence of blaming the Australian tennis authority for filling out his visa application wrong. Surely he personally has to put his signature against whatever declaration has to be filled in?
Love the Twitter pi$$ take ^^😂😂
No decision today ...
... it can't be helping his mental preparation 😛
I think the Australian authorities should let him stay (for up to 12 months)
<h3 id="toc-1">Penalties and enforcement</h3>
The ATD requests critical health information. You must be able to provide evidence that the critical information was completed before boarding the aircraft. This is an enforceable requirement. A person who fails to comply with the requirement may be liable to a civil penalty (fine) of 30 penalty units (currently $6,660 AUD). This is set out in section 46 of the Biosecurity Act 2015.Giving false or misleading information to the Australian Government is a serious offence. If convicted, the maximum penalty is imprisonment for 12 months.
States and territories may also apply penalties in order to enforce compliance with public health orders. This may include COVID-19 testing and self-isolation or quarantine requirements. If you do not comply with requirements including pre-departure and post-arrival testing, you may face serious penalties, including jail time or significant fines. Requirements may change at short notice.
The Immigration Minister stated it was taking time to process, as Djokovic's legal team had submitted a huge amount of evidence.
If after all this, especially now his visa application was a fabrication (No matter who wrote it, its HIS application), if they let him stay it trashes their whole system.
He really is a weapons grade see you next Tuesday.
It's bizarre isn't it, there is no benefit to him being there now. It would make a joke of Australian immigration rules, his matches in the tournament would be trashed (the only fans getting in are supposedly vaccinated...) and it would be a shot in the arm (sorry) for non-vaxxing!
Absolutely - I doubt whoever filled in the form just put down whatever they liked.... the information must have originated with ND so it's his problem.
If they let him get away with it then it sets a precedent for future arrivals.
"Oh I'm sorry, my 10 year old filled the form in and ticked the wrong box - human mistake"
I'm slightly surprised we've not heard anything from the Romanian authorities yet, given the press coverage, on his being in Belgrade whilst he should have legally been self isolating so breaking their immigration rules too.

Quick you still have 7 minutes to open an Atlas and edit that comment 😀

‘Moral Terpitude’ anyone ???? Is that a trick question?

Doh.
[S] And there I was thinking my basic failure to do any work so far this morning was down to a colossal dose of CBA, nope, it's because I'm hard of thinking today! [/s]
Well look, if Spain can be in Serbia I think I can reasonably move one city to the country next door.

Admit it, you're Djokovic's lawyer aren't you.

It seems like Der Spiegel are suggesting that the time stamp on his covid test result places it on 26th Dec, way later that would have been safe to play.
Basically, that he forged the test result. I wonder how much hot water this could get him in. 🤞
Also the serbian authorities are now saying he broke the law there and could well face criminal charges
Gone by Friday I'm not sure where too thou. Spitefull person just shows how far he will go to win if it's all true and some of it clearly is. Australia have no choice now
Well would you believe it, the luck of the draw has made Djokovic's R1 opponent a Serbian!
So the beneficiary of the bye to R2 won't give the Serbians further ammo to claim persecution.
Not suspicious at all, no Siree.
If he gets to stay and play (which I think he will) the Australian government are going to look utterly ridiculous with the amount of lies that have been admitted.
Is the Immigration Minister going for the ultimate shaming approach, arresting Novak after he walks out to play his first round match?
Is the Immigration Minister going for the ultimate shame approach, arresting Novak after he walks out to play his first round match?
Much as I'd like to see that happen, I doubt they have the balls to do it....
What I cannot work out is why his sponsors have not ran for the hills. People have been dropped for way less than this. His team have gone strangely quite too.
The longer the decision drags on it seems less likely (to me) that he will get booted out. Can't understand why it's taking so long.
I wonder (hope) the pause is legal issues being checked by everyone from Australian and Serbian government, to sponsors and tournament organisers, and that basically they will drop everything at once on him...
I doubt they have the balls to do it….
And yet if anyone does itll be the auzzies
Boom job jobbed.
He only has himself to blame. The untruths on the visa app the final nail.
Game, set, match?
Australia cancels Novax's Visa and intends to deport him...
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59991762
The men's tennis number one was scheduled to play in the Australian Open, which begins on Monday.
"Today I exercised my power... to cancel the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on health and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so," the minister said in a statement.
The move also means Djokovic likely faces a three-year ban on obtaining a new Australian visa.
Official review by hawke(ye) says out…
Oh happy day. 🙂
Are the courts closed at the weekend to prevent a challenge?
If he appeals can he still play?
The genuine definition of a tennis bye.
I don't see they had a choice really, once the visa lies came out. Whether it was him or his agent who filled it in wrong, he's responsible in the end and I'd find it highly unlikely his agent didn't know he'd been traveling and outside his declaration conditions.
To ignore it would create an issue for everyone else who's been deported previously, or who turns up with false declarations in future who could justifiably ask why they are being treated differently.
The correct decision. To let him play would have set a very dangerous precedent. Their house, their rules.
Hopefully the time they've taken to do this means they're watertight legally.
Whether he wins or not, he's totally discredited to all but the most diehard fans. He'll have to learn to deal with playing in front of hostile crowds for the rest of his career
Off to destination f***ed as Ozzy man would say. Ta ta.
Glad they had the guts to do it, hope it sticks.

Right decision. the initial ban was not overturned on fact but on procedure. to allow him to play would make a mockery of Australia's very strong rules on this. Had to be done
He’ll have to learn to deal with playing in front of hostile crowds for the rest of his career
One small mercy for him is that he's unlikely to face those crowds in Australia unless he stays in the game for more than another 3 years. Likely he won't be eligible for another visa until then.
I too am hoping the law courts are closed for the weekend and there's a seat in economy booked on today's flight.... He can argue legal later if he really wants.
The icing of course would be if Serbia pull him in for a word as he arrives home about that lack of isolating....
No chance of that - he’s a god there.
