Bought a cheap badminton racket 6 weeks ago used it three times and on the third use strings snapped. Wife been back to store today, no receipt as I chucked it, due to being happy with the racket. Their line was, yes we know when you purchased this but as strings aren't guaranteed do one, no money back, no replacement! Any ideas other than smash it to bits on the counter in a mobile phone shop type mentalist bloke style???

It was cheap...get what you pay for...

If you CBA you can probably argue it wasn't fit for purpose and I think the onus is then on them to establish that it was. Doubt it wouldn't be a fight.

Its probably not worth the price of the petrol to shuttle back and forth and argue the toss about it.

Worth arguing that its not fit for purpose if its broken after 3 uses. Difficult to prove either way though, and they'll probably just try to keep stringing you along.

Re-string it?

I don't think you can guarantee the string on badminton racket as they break often if not done properly. i.e. the string tension.

Compare the cost of fighting your case against the cost of replacement. Might result in a net loss even if you win.

On the other hand, STW's host of consumer rights experts will rally round to help.

Well that clearly isn't the point, is it?

You sound a bit highly strung

Have a sit down and a nice cup of tea and a biscuit

I disagree Sandwich, a few backhanded compliments could work. Don't show them your cock though, that never ends well.

Look all you jonny-come-latelys; you can't just keep resurrecting this thread to keep recycling crap puns that have already been made. Think up your own ones. It was mildly amusing the first nine times it happened, but ten is too much.

You need 'proof of purchase' and I think I'm right in saying this doesn't have to be a store receipt, it could be a bank statement with the date, store name and amount paid. Then you can claim the item is not fit for purpose. Without proof of purchase you don't really have a leg to stand on.
