Trying to identify a couple of eggs found near my house:

Anyone who knows about birds know what these are? I'm suspecting Skylark as we have quite a few of those here.

Way too big for Skylark, crow/magpie mebbe. Very common colouration though so I'd say you'll struggle to definitively identify

I’m thinking kestrel. Bear with me whilst I try and post some pics from my book.

Skylark too small.

Best match I can find in terms of size and colouration is kestrel. Seem plausible? If you’ve got skylarks sounds like in your kestrel country.

Site went down whilst I tried to fix the images.

The images in my book are printed life size so I’m not an idiot for holding a ruler to it 🙂

Carrion crows a good shout too but not rook as they have a more pointy shape. Likely Too big for Magpie.

Ah didn’t think of Kestrels. We have had those around here for years. I always thought they would have been tree nesters and both eggs have been found away from trees but a quick Google suggests they can nest on cliffs. The eggs were found on old agricultural land on the coast.

Thanks for the help!
