What should I expect? Never tried it before and am strangely nervous?
It's lovely
BBQ beef.
I always used to think they were wrong for some reason, fear the unknown and all that but I do fancy trying them now. Got some Wild West original beef jerky sitting on my desk.
They look slightly better for me than pork scratchings with less than half the calories and much more carbs. Would you say they are a good riding snack?
Mmmm, beef jerky. I love it but have some floss handy. Half of it ends up stuck in your teeth!
Not sure about a good ride snack - isnt' it mainly protein? And it's flippin' chewy!
Beef jerky is king of the snacks. Peppered ftw.
I saw the peppered but I thought I would start off on the original then if I liked it move onto the peppered.
Not keen. 🙁
Ill join you, if theres any in cost-co.
x
damn you I_Ache, now you have got me craving biltong.
will mean i have to travel 30 miles return trip to get to the nearest south african shop to get some. 🙂
Mmmm Billtong 🙂
SSP
Just had a packet myself! Lovely
Expensive though
My boss had some billtong that was 200g of [s]beef[/s] meat per 100g of billtong, awesome!
argh!! I just drove past a badger, why didn't I stop!!
I love the stuff!!
I_Ache - MemberNot keen. [:(]
that always happens, you've just taken your first tentative steps into jerkyland, go and buy some peppered, ease yourselve in, give it three months and you'll be spending your sundays alone, crying and writhing on a bed of semi consumed meat just like the rest of us.
Billtong...
Be sure and have LOTS of liquid to drink. Very very salty.
Fantastic stuff, though. So moreish.

Available in my local Tescos, I believe (1 mile), Waitrose (1.5mile) or 'proper' stuff at the Southern Cross shop in Aldgate (3.5 miles)! 😀
Bloody spensive though, for something that looks like it's come out of a dog's arse, and dried in the sun...
WTF, is biltong, and why ****ing bother eating dried beef.
i bought some proper ton sized t bones t'other day.
£30 for 4.....mahoooooosive 8)
It's a way of preserving meat, for storage/travelling in places where cool storage is not possible. Salted and cured. Very good source of protein. Very tasty, too.
Costco is rubbish, never again.
more expensive than aldi and lidl and full of epicly fat people with tooooo many offspring
at least the big aisles compensate for them
Haven't tried biltong (but will search for it now)
beef jerky is just delicious (spicy hot please) though horribly expensive.
In my local supermarket it costs €6 for 200g. That's just silly.
Translation from dutch: bil is ass - tong is tongue (but can also be like a strip of something). I guess rump-strip soudns better than ass tongue though....
Try the Elk jerky from Ikea - mmmmmm, elky! 🙂
Is it cooked in some way, or essentially just dried raw meat?
essentially dried seasoned/flavoured meat,
very lean meat, cut along the grain, season & marinade, cook in oven for approx 10hrs at about 120, if you can it helps to take the seals off your oven!
