The wife and I have an evening and a full day in Madrid in May, what should we do and where should we eat?

Prado! If you like art galleries. Fantastic collection. I haven't been in Madrid for years but had a great meal in the Argentinian quarter. If you like steak. If you haven't been before, nobody leaves the house before 10pm, the party starts past midnight.

Madrid is one of those cities where you can just walk around and find an infinite number of interesting things to see and do, many of them free. May is a nice time of year to come as well because you miss the inferno heat of summer and the cold of winter.

The Prado is an easy recommend. The road the museum is on (Paseo Del Prado) has a few other art galleries, some of them are free. You've then got the Retiro Park in close proximity which is worth a walk around on a nice day.

The Royal Palace is another lovely area to walk around. There's another huge park next to it called Casa De Campo which is great for a bit of mountain biking. You can find quite a few bike rental places alongside the river adjacent to the park. East of the palace, near to Plaza Mayor (famous big square) is a big glass building called Mercado San Miguel. Inside are loads of little kiosks where you can buy tasters of loads of different foods / drink. This is a great little place to early in the evening for a drink and a quick bite to eat because as hels says above, most Spanish people don't go out to eat until way after 10pm.

I actually live in Madrid so hit me up with a private message on here if you want to know anything specific.

The Prado is incredible. You could easily spend several days in there. There used to be a great cafe in the basement.

Mercado San Miguel is a great piece to start your evening.

I'd recommend Tiradito restaurant. It's a Peruvian restaurant with some really nice, interesting and different food. Great pisco sours and wine too.

Templo de Debod (sp?) to watch the sun go down

If you have time, go to see Picasso's Guernika

It's amazing, interesting, humbling, upsetting, worrying, intelligent, thought-provoking, beautiful and strange all at the same time.

😭🙄☹️🙄🤔😠🙂

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

They're everywhere.

The Mercado is good, just walk, find places to eat, look at the sites, great city to wander around.
