Anyone else feel it's creepy to make children sing this?
We are Britain and we have one dream
To unite all people in one great team
Strong Britain, Great Nation
Strong Britain, Great Nation
Strong Britain, Great Nation
...
Does have a bit of a whiff of "One Britain, One People" to it.
Will there be any torchlit marches to go with it? That'd be pretty cool.
Too effing right it is.
Reminds me of...
Deutschland, Deutschland, uber alles....
Boak.
I have a mate that lives in Glasgow who's Polish, was brought up on the border with Russia, and they used to go out at playtimes at school and sing about how great Russia is.
This. is. that.
If we're "one nation"... why does the OBON logo have two lions? Where's the Unicorn? If this is to be done in schools, isn't it the summer holidays for lots of kids north of the border? Where does NI fit into this?
Its also really stupid as: Scotland wales and NI have their own education departments and education is devolved - so this is England only
Britain, great britain and UK are not synonyms
But best of all - most scottish schools will be on holiday on that day
When do the daily reports of tractor production figures start?
I don't think they could get "One Britain, three nations, well perhaps four if you count Northern Ireland but definitely united except for those who consider themselves northerners and don't even get me started on the Cornish" to scan very well
Christ, talk about not being able to "read a room"
A mate of mine is a Hungarian dentist, he's old enough to have been forced to learn Russian in school. Suffice to say, he's not got fond memories...
This. is. that.
Yep
Beautiful. Will weed out the wokies and traitors. & c.
Good grief
If we’re “one nation”… why does the OBON logo have two lions?
That's was my first thought.
Well my second thought after I stopped laughing.
Has it actually come from the government? It's got a strong whiff of Britain first etc.
Do we also need them to throw a Full Rimmer at portraits of Johnson and The Queen whilst singing?
it is sodding bonkers
who on earth do they think it will appeal to?
Pretty insidious isn't it, just glad my kids aren't in school anymore otherwise they'd be in fear of me giving their school both barrels yet again...
who on earth do they think it will appeal to?
The Blue Passport brigade.
Anyone else feel it’s creepy to make children sing this?
I do hope they get asked to stand with arms out as they sing, so that they look like tiny crucifixes.
Praise the lard ,we are one nation under this scum.

Anyone else feel it’s creepy to make children sing this?
Absolutely, and I don't have any kids!
Straight from the playbook of almost every dictatorship/evil regime you care to think of.
I think it's a good thing.
I mean, can you imagine British people jumping up and down clapping enthusiastically when we test a new missile?
Me neither. One Britain One Nation is exactly the kind of thing we need to get kids used to so that in ten years time we can have authentic outpourings of support every time the government tells us we have won an important victory against the EU.
Pretty insidious isn’t it, just glad my kids aren’t in school anymore otherwise they’d be in fear of me giving their school both barrels yet again…
This. Very much this.
It was composed by school kids in Bradford as part of an initiative set up by an ex copper who immigrated here at the age of 6. The DofE sent a tweet endorsing the initiative and linking to the site. (It is this Friday so Scottish schools will not have broken up.)

Never heard of this lot before. Here is one of their aims:
To re-appropriate the flag of Great Britain so that it represents all people of good conscience, in order to promote and celebrate our common and collective identity.
One might say "good luck with that" though that would be a bit cynical. There are no references to the devolved nations there at all, so it is not easy to work out whether they mean "Great Britain" (ie excluding NI) or not. The "One Nation" bit doesn't sit too well with the Good Friday Agreement, so if one gives them the benefit of the doubt as to their thoughtfulness, it is deliberate. Skimming through it, the focus appears to be on bringing different ethnicities and cultures together and is rather England-oriented. The material looks quite carefully drafted to stick to the single, bland message.
It is this Friday so Scottish schools will not have broken up
Depends on the LA. Some break up on Wednesday, quite a few more on Thursday.

And there was no prompting from anyone and it definitely has nothing to do with this government's creepy nationalist agenda. 😂
Mefty - education being devolved this will NOT happen in Scotland. Not a chance
They probably should have gone with One England One Nation.
Or just not bothered.

You'll be one of those who applauds the findings of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities report because it was chaired by Dr Sewell. 😉
In my head I'm getting
One Nation under God
has turned into
One Nation under the influence
of one drug
Television! The drug of the Nation.

You know something's bad when even Mefty can only make a half-hearted defence.
Choirs aren't allowed in schools because of Covid
it's the p1ss taking that is bringing us all together
Sounds like a good day to take your child out of school.
I'm appalled but not overly surprised.
I'll discuss it with my kids and let them decide if they want to do it or not.
My kid's got a hat to wear
Love the hat!
Ein Reich, Ein Volk...you know the rest. All a bit Hitler Youth-y, really.
And a lot of comparisons to this:
I prefer this song
You know something’s bad when even Mefty can only make a half-hearted defence.
To be fair to Mefty, I think pointing out the good intentions and source of the initiative was a very useful post. Thanks Mefty. That doesn't change the fact that it fails to recognise that Britain isn't England. Or that the song sounds like empty nationalism. All of which are understandable failings of a local grass roots initiative, but not one being promoted by a government department.
Luckily our kids are doing the Lion King at school this week - I can hear them belting that out in the playground, so this one britain cr@p won't get a chance!
I've contacted school just so they have evidence that parents don't support it (the one britain singalong, not the lion king!). Teachers and schools have been thrown on the trash heap before, during and after the pandemic - I can't see schools willingly supporting more political gesturing.
After this shocking year, effort does need to be put into rebuilding communities - but that can be grass roots led, it doesn't, and shouldn't, come from an agenda driven government.
I appreciate it doesn't actually come from the government though, and the origins are well intended, and it's probably media distorting it...but even so, government endorsement is going to damage the original intent.
It may be well intended but its utterly stupid and will cause a huge backlash - probably what the tories are counting on to make an enemy within

The Scots on twitter and /r/scotland certainly don't seem to happy about it, they think it's targetted at keeping them in the union.
My reading of it though is that actually it's meant to be helping ethnic minorities.
The guy who set up the charity is the founder of the British Indian association and if you read his bio, he did a bunch of outreach work as a police officer in Bradford.
One Britain, One Nation are backed by Tory MP's. Apparently there was a Labour MP as well but he got kicked out.
Mefty is also wrong about Scottish schools
Most are finishing this week, before Friday
(always used to annoy me that my cousins broke up for summer a month before us! ).

The fact that DFE didn't realise this is another gift to the SNP
And as well intentioned as it may be it seems creepy as fk to me
Do we get blohard riding a horse next?

It's a load of flag waving tosh for sure but if they wanted a song of national unity they could've just appropriated another one - I'm sure this would be fine...
Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer Our Country's call
From the four proud provinces of Britain
CHORUS
Britain, Britain Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Britain's call
From the three proud provinces of Britain

Not just any flag shagging, but promoting under age flag shagging!
American schoolkids place their hands over their hearts when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. Is there a special salute that goes with this song? (I don't have kids so haven't received any directives.)
I shall be wearing my crass t shirt on Friday.
Is there a special salute that goes with this song? (I don’t have kids so haven’t received any directives.)
I have taught mine to use their 2 middle fingers...
It's been going since 2005... Mysteriously 2021 is the year when suddenly it gets the PM and department of education's support after being pushed by Esther Mcvey, after 15 years of getting all the attention it deserves.
will every school be given a copy of mein kampf to read also? after the king james bible of course 😂
Jeez, never heard of this before. I'm probably viewed as a xenophobic flag waving loon on here, and even I think this is the start of a very slippery slope.
One thing that concerns me is that whilst we are whinging about this and them privatizing Ch4...what are they actually up to...
will every school be given a copy of mein kampf to read also?
no, they will get boris johnson's fictional re-imagination of churchill's life story.
From the three proud provinces of Britain
2 proud provinces.
Britain - E&W
Great Britain - E&W&S
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - E&W&S&NI
British Isles - geographical name for all the islands regardless of country.
So they're singing a song about England and Wales and even then only manage to get the national animal of England in the logo.
One thing that concerns me is that whilst we are whinging about this and them privatizing Ch4…what are they actually up to…
Publicising and lending support to a slightly naff idea from a group working in communities in Bradford??
The evil Machiavellian so and so's !!!!
I imagine most parents would go "FFS, not ANOTHER day", and hope the school doesn't bother
So they’re singing a song about England and Wales and even then only manage to get the national animal of England in the logo.
Education is devolved in Wales, isn't it? If so, this is just about England. It makes me so proud...
Now, where's my little red book?
It's a convenient peg on which to hang another pennant of the on-going culture war that the de Pfeffel derives so much benefit from. Appeals to the nationalistic sentiment of his base while it infuriates everyone else.
Classic divide and rule tactics.
Its 5 years today since the referendum result too....
If ever there was a time for a 'teacher training day'...
The sun on the meadow is summery warm.
The stag in the forest runs free.
But gather together to greet the storm.
Tomorrow belongs to me.
If ever there was a time for a ‘teacher training day’…
Or alternatively just ignore the "day"
It always strikes me as odd that teacher training days never coincide with closures for polling. And are always on a Monday or Friday....
Classic divide and rule tactics.
I think it's a naff idea but don't quite get the "divide and rule"? Unless you mean those with musical taste and those without?
(It is this Friday so Scottish schools will not have broken up.)
Except the ones that did last Friday. Thank **** that includes my daughter.

You'd be correct if the reference was to Great Britain but the British Isles includes the island of Ireland (although the Republic contest that).
Load of old bollocks anyway. Nationalistic nonsense.
