Once again the EDL are flooding the centre of Birmingham with hatred and bile. Specifically choosing a city with a multi-cultural population to cause trouble and disruption. So this is where all those who once would have been trading punches around football matches have gone... Any excuse for conflict and confrontation it seems.

How can people truly be this stupid...

If you don't like it you should do something about it

What would you suggest?

Protesting?
You can't protest peacefully against these people - it's too dangerous.
Bury being a prime example.
Maybe I'm just too old now.

Become an activist for another party or political organization?
Resigned from Labour, don't feel comfortable anywhere else.

The only thing (I think) I can do is attempt to act decently to everyone I meet, challenge their rhetoric whenever it rears it's ugly head and to discuss the issues calmly and rationally when others bring them up.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Have a chat with them ? EDL supporters seem to be interested in politics.

Here a few EDL supporters are making a political point rather forcefully :

^^ I do this. As a result I've been threatened and experienced attempts at intimidation... I won't stop though.

Do not fear, homegrown islamists in Birmingham far outweigh the EDL marchers

That's the worst anti-EDL haiku I've ever heard.

Ignorant ****s.
You really are very ugly.
Don't rate your barber.

Any better?

They have chosen to march as there is also an opposing march on in the city center today and the Police have authorised both marches but they are being held in different squares.

Check out the West Mids twitter feed for the locations. Will be worth avoiding the city unless you're staying over by the Bull Ring.

I've avoided the city. Had a couple of errands in Moseley and Edgbaston but stayed out of the centre.
