Want to get a much better device to listen to Spotify on the move than the phone (rubbish internal DAC and amp) so can you get MP3 type players that have the facility to stream from the internet? I realise this may require a sim. Failing that I could download to storage and listen off line but I think it still needs an internet connection to verify the account? Tend to listen through some reasonable over ear phones.

Any suggestions for something that steps up the quality a fair bit from a phone?

I've never tried any but perhaps something like these.  http://www.bassheadspeakers.com/top-10-best-portable-headphone-amps/

You want a portable hardware device to play Spotify from that isn't your phone?

Not heard of such a thing.

My amp can connect to spotify and is ok quality, but I wouldn't call it portable!

Edit: Intrigued enough to go googling, I found this -  https://bemighty.com/ not sure if it fits the bill?

I'd been following this fairly closely, until they had loads of issues. Don't know the current status.

fiio x7 is an android based player, you could probably put the spotify app on it?
