On the back of the migraine thread- tight traps/facial tension/forehead tension

Reading the migraine thread and as a sufferer it has made me think!

I'm suffering hugely at the minute with ridiculously tight upper traps, LHS facial tension, forehead tension, tension headaches.

Obviously I worry and stress about it which makes it worse - cyclical.

Riding is my go to to de-stress but the neck stiffness makes it less fun! As does the weight of carrying a rucksack (or one of my kids on my shoulders)

I try stretching but it kind of works, any resources/ideas?

Accupuncture worked and am waiting to get a session at my physio but in the mean time - stress management, upper body/facial tension help!

As a non migraine but tension sufferer, I would whole heartedly recommend reducing phone use to the absolute minimum and ideally less.

If you're desk based, reassess and change your seating/monitor position

Use a single thin pillow.

And maybe getting an eye test while your at it

My first aid for tension is a couple of tennis balls in a sock, which I can lay on for a bit of trigger release of tight muscle areas. It's very effective, basically accupressure

Not desk based

Single thin pillow in action

Twice yearly eye checks

No phone after 8:30 and not much in the day

The stress is life based and being pulled in 5+ directions

No ability to say no to people

Being perpetually tired

Etc

These are common issues for I'd say a decent chunk of the population. Interestingly, I did some hypnotherapy therapy to get to grips with saying no to people as I found it really hard. It was pretty liberating to change my mindset. Of course that is connected to being pulled in multiple directions so maybe there is mileage in shedding the people pleaser trait for you

Stress quite often equals tiredness.

What I've found is that when I started saying no ( and felt good about it), the people wanting my energy moved on to someone else instead.

Get someone to massage your face and traps. Amazing how good a face massage can be if you are stressed.

@kormoran - the people pulling are people in my immediate family that I'm responsible for so can't shed them lol

People pleaser - deffo and try hard to not be but feels an inherent trait 😭

Neck stretching helps,  but you will also need to stretch your upper back too including shoulders as everything links and you are unlikely to have just one tight muscle group.

Off for accupuncture on Friday.

Weird one yesterday, had pain in the front of my neck for 4 days after stretching, went trampolining with the kids, it disappeared!!
