Time for a revisit to the Teac O'Casse?
Did you see my post about that on the other cassette thread?
I like the look of that! I don't like the faff of it though! Back to the drawing board Teac.
That looks fantastic! Never heard of them before. Nice find!
I love redundant and obscure formats. This is the capacitance electronic disc, which is essentially a movie on a vinyl record. Seriously!! Amazing stuff:

This is the capacitance electronic disc,
I remember that as the "videodisc."

I did not, sorry.
I love redundant and obscure formats.
I have a moderate stack of betamax machines laying about. I can't see them being next months ironic fashion icon though..
I remember that as the “videodisc.”
I had no recollection of them at all, only found out they existed via the internets. There's a techmoan video about them too- they're quite compulsive viewing, hey? 🙂
Techmoan (who did that video) is a brilliant YouTuber - so many reviews of obscure stuff!
I did not, sorry
anyone else other than a mod would 've had a duplicate thread deleted 😉
Philips Laservision Laserdiscs I think is what you’re on about. Great quality, Philips were very strict, everything had to be perfect or they’d reject the masters. I believe we did all the mastering for the PAL territories.

I was in contact with a guy who managed to recover video recorded on old 78s by John Logie Baird.
Its thought baird was doing it as a red herring so that other inventors wasted effort trying to copy/beat him to it.
baird never managed to play them back but this guy recovered the images in the 1990s and they’re available as gifs on is website (if it’s still there)
the capacitance electronic disc,
That's quite mad! Never seen those before - uses a needle to playback the images and sound! Friends back in the day had a laser videodisc set up in their house, they were really into films and memorabilia and were early adopters of a lot of technology. I don't recall them ever having a Capitance though. Wonder if they still have their collection of unwieldy laserdiscs..

No, laserdisc is something different (I have a laserdisc player still). They're big shiny discs, like DVDs the size of an LP. The videodisc was like a record, sealed in a caddy.
Techmoan has a nice video about the Capacitance (videodiscs). And I've just spent the last 40 odd minutes listening to him rave about minidiscs 🙂 (Doesn't even mention the lovely editing features of it!)
That's the most pointless tech ever.
Very interesting and looks very well made and designed, but absolutely pointless.
Anyone got a link to the cassette thread, just so I can point and laugh.

Yep, lazerdisc played by a laser, videodisc by a diamond stylus
I'm still carrying on with my attempts to record IMAX 3D on wax drums
That reviewer's voice reminds me of someone from the 80's Computer Program thing on BBC....
