I've decided it's time for a new telly but I'm torn a to if I should get an OLED or not. Obviously they look amazing but as I'm prone to the odd gaming binge I'm concerned about image burn. Can anyone help put my mind at ease or give a glowing review of either Sony led or Samsung QLED?
Image burn may occur after several hours gaming with a fixed icon on OLED, QLED you get no burn.
Sony XF9005 range and Samsung Q8 or above but they come a premium.
Those are the two other options. The Sonys have a lot off at the moment which could swing it if everything else is on par. Android puts me off a little bit as I hear its a little slow.
Yeah heard mixed reciews on interface. I'm looking at the Q8 as latency is better.
We have a 55” OLED LG. Played a fair bit of Switch on it and no burn in 15 months.
Picture is fantastic.
Xf9005 is LCD not OLED. I went for LG B8, £1500 from richer sounds. Fk me, it's a step up from a 32" 10 year old Samsung. I think there's a Phillips OLED with ambilight knocking about at a good price right now.
[Edit] also, LG doing £500 cashback on some models at the moment
Xf9005 is LCD not OLED.
True but often rates high for gaming.
I think screen burn is a bit of a red herring nowadays.
Most oled screens have a process to clean the screen when it is put into standby on the remote.
Our Panasonic screen has such a mode and provided it is never just turned off at the plug it should be fine.
OLED, definitely. Buy from Richer Sounds with 5 year warranty, solves any image burn issues.

Wasn't 6 months ago I went to a large retailer, for the salesman to show me screen burn on one of their demonstration units. Yes those unit have a weird life but I wouldn't want to have spent that much and had potential screen burn.. In the end I needed a TV smaller than the min sized OLED, I was annoyed as I did want one, as they are amazing, but I'd see which one work best or as above buy with a long warranty that covers screen burn
@flaperon sadly no one has a warranty the covers screen burn for OLED.QQuite a few do for QLED but as they don't suffer it's just a marketing tool.
After a chat with Richer Sound at Chester they confirmed that if you just watch films then OLED is the way to go but for gaming or YouTube they're best avoided.
In the end I went for a 65 Samsung Q9. Coming from a 50 it's a hell of a step up.
Why would a manufacturer warrant against something that is the fault of the user/operator like screen burn? Screen burn happens when a still image is left on screen for a long period of time or if the same image is shown for a long period of time, like a demo in a shop for example. It's a characteristic of the technology not a flaw in the design or manufacture of the product - which is what warranty is there to protect against. But if you use the TV 'normally' and if you are pausing the image for a long period of time put the display on standby then you should never get it.
On TV display technology just get the latest and greatest if your budget allows..it'll be obsolete in 3 years anyway.

It's real yes but for normal household useage it's not an issue.
