Help needed.
I have had this, (otherwise known as Popeye elbow) for a week now. An infection has made my elbow really painful to the touch. Doctor has given me me antibiotics for three weeks and said no exercise that moves the elbow. Full rest is needed to return it back to normal.
Has anyone any experience of this 'illness' (I'm not ill but it bloody hurts) and alternative / additional treatments that could speed up the process.

Nigel
I had this a few weeks ago, wiped me out for a few days but the antibiotics helped although with the usual side effects...
Took a good few weeks to get better though, still residual heat in it for ages. Still feels different to the other elbow.
Had this a while ago, not too bad for me, only off the bike for a week or so. As above, a few months later and that elbow still feels different, and quite sore if knocked.
All I can say is ice and elevate. Get well soon.
I had it a couple years ago, ended up in hospital for 4 days on IV antibiotics with my arm raised in a sling/support because it got infected.
It took me a good 6 weeks to feel like i could use full strength in my arm again, maybe another 2-3 weeks before i was happy mountain biking. And as others have already said, my elbow took months to feel 'right' again, still being sensitive to knocks and over use.
Just recovered from a very minor knock to the elbow which saw the elbow and arm swell to nearly double the size and the temperature felt nearly as hot as the surface of the sun. Redness creeped right down my arm before antibiotics kicked in. Had similar thing a few years ago, guess my left elbow must be very sensitive! Still feels weak now and elbow a funny shape still after a week of the inflammation going away.
I don't believe there is much you can do with bursitis other than rest to allow the swelling and infection to clear, Rest Ice Compression, Elevation should help reduce the swelling, you could try Ice pack a couple of times a day. Some manual therapists might suggest working on the area to help with lymphatic drainage and to improve movement of the joint.
I had this after a nasty off onto v hard hardpack.
Took the course of antibiotics and put on some very expensive french plasters that have a wierd foam/gel layer meant to combat infection.
Properly freaked me out and i thought i would never be the same again. Just give it time.
