For anything?
I have stopped (some time ago - 3 years or so) my Sky subscription but still have the box in the loft. I use the dish to feed a Humax Freesat recorder and seem to have another set of cables runnig to the office which also has the screw on connector socket in the wall.
Can I use the old Sky box to get channels in the office? The tv in there uses a 'normal' aerial, which now seems borked...
should be able to, IIRC you can use a Sky box for Freeview viewing only (pause/rewind etc requires a £10/month sub or did a few years back when I ditched Sky for good) which I did for a while the first time I ditched them (before they starting sending me crazy offers to tempt me back 😂)
Yes you can get freesat through an old sky box. We did this for a while. Didn’t need a new viewing card or anything although I have read that you might have to get one for a one off fee. Years ago though so who knows if it’s changed. You still see the epg with all the channels but can only access the free to air ones. In the end we bought a freesat pvr as at the time I wanted to be able to record stuff. Now that everything is streamed that’s not an issue so a cheap freesat tuner without pvr would do the trick. Or a telly with built in freesat tuner. Try it and see you’ve nothing to lose
We use our old Sky box as a freesat box. As above, you still get the programme guide and the free channels, but no recording* or pause/rewind.
Usually stream stuff, but it is a bit annoying when you've missed the start of something and want to rewind to the beginning, and it won't appear on catch up for an hour or more
*hilariously, it still records stuff you had set to record on series link, you just can't watch any recordings
