Hi
I've found my old Scalextrics 400 set from 1979/80 and I'm looking at setting it up for my kids.
I'm likely to need to order some brushes etc but could anyone tell me if the red or black lead is positive when it comes to connecting to the transformer?
Assuming the transformer and hand controls need replacing is there a more current compatible version available?
Thanks
Not sure it matters set it up one way they go one way round set it up the other way they go the other way round.
Harrythespider will be along shortly with the correct answer and a picture of a massive setup .
Traditionally, red is live or +, black neutral or -
In practice it doesn't matter
Ben - That is in far too goo condition!
It doesn't matter which way you connect it, it's 12v DC. Simply switch the track connectors until the cars both go in the direction you want.
The 400 figure of 8 was a really fun layout.
There's boxes of track and other cars, a grandstand, lap counter. It's was in my parents loft, found all my Star Wars stuff as well including a boxed Palitoy Millennium Falcon
Pretty sure you can get a new transformer and start line track piece (sports?), and then a couple of converter join pieces to go on either end of that.
Oh man, I had that kit when I was a kid. Seeing the box brought back memories of the sideboard in the dining room, where it was store beneath. I can see it poking out as clear as if it were yesterday. The original kit had the 6-wheel Rothmans March 771, which was speedy, but never a match for for Mk.1 Escort or the tail-happy MagnaTech Sierra Cosworth I fixed by cutting 5mm out the center of. Good memories...
